Unfortunately, we were never planning to make this product as an off-the-shelf offering. It was originally requested that we make a custom production run, which would require someone to give us a definite list of the features they want. With what's been discussed here, $200 probably couldn't be...
You should be in good shape using either the Tuffy 063-01 or the 058-01 Security Drawers. Since a 40 is always subject to modifications, I always recommend that you take some measurements just in case something's changed! You can see the dimensions here...
It looks like we have a volunteer vehicle to take a look at. I have also passed on the list of suggestions from the forum to our design guy. Once he gets a good look at it, I will post an update.
EricG, thanks a bunch for compiling that info. It will be very helpful.
Corbet, we may take you up on the measuring of your vehicle. Perhaps we can work out a "deal";). Realistically we are a little ways out because we are so incredibly busy right now. It looks like we are bringing on a...
What we really need to do is take a good look at the vehicle and come to some consensus on the design. We have had quite a few people say they are interested but so far we have gotten 40 different "I would buy one if it had this, or that". Totally understandable that everyone has their own...
All of the Tuffy consoles have a flat bottom. In order to maintain the rear heater you would have to do some fabbing. I am not super familiar with the heater setup so can not give suggestions as to what would have to be done. Will have to look for one next time I am out on the trail somewhere.
Outside dimensions are the same for both models (with or without stereo compartment) so that will come down to a matter of personal choice. If you are not going to store a radio of some sort the Series II offers more storage space. If you need a place to mount a radio, the Deluxe Stereo...
I have compared the Smittybilts and the Tuffys side by side. Here is a link to a console comparison on the Jeep forum. I do represent Tuffy but would buy (and have bought) the Tuffy product for my personal vehicles based on the quality differences.
SmittyBuilt Locking Glove Box - Cheap! -...
$70 cheaper for a console that is no where close to the quality of the Tuffy. A cheap locking system, no latch, no hemmed lid, cheap hardware, no waterproof hinge, no color matched powder coating, no Pry-Guard II system, no lifetime warranty, made in Taiwan, etc. , etc. , etc..
All of the Tuffy Deluxe Stereo and Series II console prices have been reduced for 2008. Most people have been using the 8" wide version in the 60 series.
The boxes are powder coated from the factory. If you want to use primer and paint I would recommend scuffing up the surface a little bit so the paint will stick better.
