I completely drained the tank with a siphon, and then used a vacuum pump and spent 15 minutes probing the tank bottom trying to get every last drop of fluid out. I think I got it all. Next I added some gas dri and a few gallons of mid Grade unleaded.
Next I pulled the fuel line from the carb...
I used HDPE plastic sheeting, just wadded up in a ball sitting at the top of the filler neck. There was only about 4 gallons of gas in the tank, I was not driving it or fueling it recently. I don't think it broke down at all or vaused the issue. I believe a fair amount of rainwater got in...
I drained the tank, and it looks like it may have had some water. Hard to believe that much could have gotten in as I did have the neck "plugged", but we get some "next level" rain here so I suppose it could have gotten in.
Now that tank has been drained, and new fuel added...any other tips...
Not sure, I assume it is the original tank, but I am not a Subject matter expert on these vehicles, first one I have owned. I did completely drain the tank dry, and put a few gallons of new clean midgrade fuel in it, still not starting. Could still be some water in the lines I guess.
My gas cap was stolen about a month ago. I have been keeping a ball of plastic jammed in the filler neck to keep moisture out, I guess some water got in. The truck does not have the original filler neck, so I cannot find a matching cap to replace it. I have purchased and tried 8 different...
I have a 1980 FJ45 with 2F motor. Has been running like a top. We recently just got our first significant rain here in FL, and my truck will no longer start after this rain event.
I pulled and cleaned the plugs. It will fire briefly with some starter fluid through the air intake but only for...
That looks the closest I have seen. I will take some measurements in the morning and see if I can get a bit more detail. Is that lod something you would be interested in selling?
I left it parked on the street for about a week because my house was being painted...and the gas cap went missing during that time. It has not been driven much lately and it's been a month or so since I fueled it last. Just noticed it was missing.
I tried a genuine OEM replacement for a 1980...
I own a 1980 FJ45, purchased about 6 months ago and work in progress. Recently I noticed my gas cap was missing...I assume it was stolen since I have only fueled it twice since owning it.
Anyhow, none of the various OEM and 3rd party replacement caps I have purchased fit.
I think the vehicle...
Rusty I am not an experienced wrencher...change a tire....oil change....simple stuff, no problem....I just dont have a lot of practical experience....I did order the service manual for the vehicle and I aspire to be able to do more down the road....but I need to get it driveable sooner than...
So I did a thing recently and pulled the trigger on a 1980 FJ45 as a retirement gift to myself.
Seller was nearing completion on restoration and needed money for another project.
As it sits, vehicle has a few issues and I am currently ISO a good mechanic to go through it and give me a...
