For anyone keeping score - I ended up getting the City Racer lamps. Shipping was crazy fast, installation could not have been simpler.
I don't love how the LED light looks on my truck, I think the warm orange incandescent lamps look great on an old vehicle, but I am more than pleased that I can...
Yessir - I am hugely embarrassed to say I didn't realize the high beams were activated by pulling on the turnsignal stick - for some reason I expected them to be operated by the pull knob. It looks like everything works as it should, the problem is the meat behind the wheel. Looks like I simply...
The headlights on my truck are pretty awful, and I'm trying to figure out how best to go about making it safer to drive at night. I have my eyes on the City Racer LED lights, as well as the KOITO 8110-60P70 Kit - I don't have a preference for either, so long as I can see adequately at night and...
Contacted Cruiser Brothers and they sent me a rounded one immediately with zero fuss, really great customer support. Truck is happy with it's new wedges, drives like a dream instead of jumping all over the place.
Thanks for the information on this!
I have a 1980 FJ40, and ordered some shims and u-bolts from cruiser brothers. 3 of them look just right, but of course the one that rides on the diff is different than the others.
My issue is that the diff u-bolt that was sent is squared off, not rounded like the one that is currently on there...
This is EXACTLY what my 40 needs - can you tell me where you got your shims, shackles and bolts? I am at -3 caster, so I figure I need to go with a set of 4 degree shims to get back to +1.
As the title says -
My 40 will cold start first try, runs high idle at start perfectly and then as soon as I tap the pedal, it drops down to a nice steady idle. It drives perfectly after that for about the first 10-15 miles or so after it gets good and hot. After pushing it on the highway at...
I'll do just that. I'm afraid whatever damage is done is catastrophic though. Already got quotes on a replacement tranny and holy crap I was not prepared to see that cost.
1st and second gear are buttery smooth - if I wind 2nd gear higher than I should (where I should be in 3rd already) it starts to vibrate some, but it only gets REALLY bad in the middle / high end of third and the begining of 4th. Once I pick up a sufficient amount of speed in 4th, it goes away...
For anyone still wondering about this, I have a bit of an update -
The vibration got significantly worse recently, to the point it started making a high speed grinding sound intermittently. When I was driving it home from getting a new gas tank put in, as I turned the corner on my street 3rd...
1980 FJ40 with a weber 38 carb looking for a switched / acc 12v source -
So far, I've read that some people here like to use the ignition coil - however mine only puts out about 6.5-7v, so I assume if I used that, that's gonna take longer for the carb to open up. I've been doing okay without it...
My usual guy who has a shop behind his house is very good but covered up that any help from him is months away. I'm going to try the things within my reach like fluids and lube any anything you guys think I can swing but I do intend on getting on his books for some suspension work and shims, if...
Thank you, I appreciate the advice, it'll be good to get that leak stopped. I think I ordered a half dozen crush washers for my oil plug but I'm sure I won't be that lucky they'll match; as soon as I get home I'll check it.
Yessir, took it back out after lubing the zerks along the drive shaft and I think I'm gaslighting myself, the vibration seems a tiny bit better but it's still bad.
To answer your question though, yes if I push the clutch in, the vibrations go away like "the issue" is being disengaged.I can...
