For Sale  Clemson, SC: 1999 Lexus LX 470

I purchased this with 286k on it in Charleston. It now has 294k on it. Rust free GA and SC vehicle that has clearly never been off-roaded. +/- $4,500 worth of work completed in the last 7k miles. Timing belt, water pump, radiator, heater tees, hoses, steering rack, cv axles, hubs, crankshaft and...

Towing bass boat with 100 series

    I have to agree with Mongoose. In chronological order, I’ve had and towed everything from gooseneck horse trailers to boats from 15 to 30 feet with a 2002 7.3 F250, 2007 Jeep Commander 4.7, 2013 F150 5.0, another 2002 7.3 F250, 2006 6.0 F250, 2017 GMC 1500 5.3, 2010 F250 5.4, 2015 Grand Cherokee...

Towing bass boat with 100 series

I towed a 21’ Sea Hunt with my 99. It tows okay-ish, not great. Anything more than a local tow to the ramp we opt for the wife’s Yukon XL with the 6.2, longer wheelbase, better brakes, etc. Previously had a Grand Cherokee with 3.6 and 8 speed and it towed the same boat much better as well. We’re...

    New here, new purchase

New heater tees and all new heater related hoses replaced. Back up and running. Checking off almost all of the mechanical stuff so far except redoing brakes and suspension. I have one gripe that I absolutely HATE about this vehicle and will ultimately lead me to buying another vehicle before...

To see truly around the boat, not really. But they’re sufficient to see down the sides of the boat pretty well. The more square shape is better than the sorry excuse for a mirror on our Yukon XL

Will keep that in mind for the future. Already have it lined up with the guy to go back this weekend. Ocean Auto Imports on Folly Road has been doing the work on it.

She went back to the shop at the beginning of December for an oil change and trouble shoot an oil and coolant leaks. Came out of the shop with new crankshaft and camshaft seals, water pump, timing belt, radiator, and serpentine belt tensioner pulley. Sat at the house for 5 days while we were...

No brakes. Trailer is now about 2.5 years old, and earlier this year when repacked hubs we just removed the brakes rather than replace. Wife drives a 2015 Yukon XL Denali and any trip more than just around James Island I use that. It's just nice to have the beater LX at the ramp for dogs and wet...

This is one of the reasonings for deciding to go with the 265s instead of 285s. Towed locally for the first time this weekend and it is about all the boat she wants to tow. Trailer lights don't work at all and I know it's on the vehicle side. Will dig into that now as well.

What better way to test out the latest shop repairs, had to go down to FL to help my mom move. Stop by the farm in GA on the way to drop off a little hunting boat I towed from SC. Rattled it around pretty good on some red clay washboard roads at the farm, tested out the transfer case shift, diff...

    Ratcheting armrest stuck

For what it's worth, I pulled the arm rest off to get it right. There's only 1 14mm bolt for it and the inside fit between arm rest and seat is square tube. Installed it rotated really far down, them just brought it up to where it's comfortable. Didn't fix the ratcheting part but at least it's...

    New here, new purchase

At any point in the past I would’ve gladly blown a weekend to do nothing but work on it to save some labor cost. But now have an 8 month old, and will gladly pay the mechanic until he gets old enough to help me with it 😂

Nice, yes new radiator, timing belt, water pump, all fluid changes are in the next shop outing. Want to try to run it for an oil change interval and space out my next big shop bill. I took it to Ocean Imports on Folly Rd. Looks like they’re new to town in the past handful of years, him his wife...

    New here, new purchase

Back from the shop with new CV axles, new steering rack, and valve cover gaskets. Replaced a few other minor items that were incidentals along the way of those major items. Got some new Goodyear Ultraterrains, trimmed the stupid mud flaps, and removed the running boards. Now have a rubbing...

    Which 285/75/16 tires...A/T, hybrid, MT...

I took a left turn on the entire thread. Went with 265/75 Goodyear Wrangler Ultraterrain. Tire cost, tire weights, and the fact of towing the boat here and there with no intention to lift it swayed me back to the 265s.

    Which 285/75/16 tires...A/T, hybrid, MT...

I haven’t kept a vehicle for 75k worth of mileage, or long enough to wear out a set of tires, in the last 10 years. Now, I’d bet I keep this one longer than I have been swapping vehicles out. But weird as it sounds the tread life isn’t that big of a concern for me as long as whatever I get isn’t...

    Which 285/75/16 tires...A/T, hybrid, MT...

The Cooper AT3, Grabber ATx, and Destination XT are all ones I will re-price alongside the other options. My Cooper ATP were great with the exception of getting a slow leak that took forever for them to figure out. I think that was just an oddity and not common. The Firestone shop is very close...
