For those who might be curious about not running fender flares and what to do with all of the holes left behind, I've been sealing up the fender flare holes by using an old school trick: flux core solder.
For small holes (up to 1/4 inch), this method works a treat. Remove paint around the...
It's been quite a while since I've updated my thread, but some exciting plans are in motion!
I'm currently planning a road trip to Alaska and back, sometime around August 2025, and intend on going to Iceland and Australia. In order to prep for all this, I've been asking shops nationwide about...
Thank you!
In the bumper? Those are fill plates for fog lights. I have additional brackets that I'll add with the fog lights down the road, just not a huge priority at the moment.
Edit: You may have meant those small black plastic things below the headlight. Those are headlight washer...
I'm going to do a more permanent solution. Currently just deciding on some sort of bondo, soldering the holes, or having a shop do it.
I've seen interesting demos of how some body repair shops will use solder for hole repair, so I might give that a try when my garage is done in the next...
Currently having heat and insulation put into my detached garage for working on the 80 during the winter. Meanwhile, it's always a good day to get the old girl out to stretch her legs.

Desert Dune Metallic has really grown on me. I recently removed my fenders and may respray when I figure out the best way to patch the holes left behind.
MRAs are the superior choice if you go off pavement often, with various terrain and at variable speeds.
Personally, the IMS I have are great, and have been in most all situations I've put them through over the past 2 years. For my use case, I didn't want to bother getting in and out of the...
Congrats on the cruiser! I have a 1995 HDJ81 VX Limited myself. Most parts are easy to come by with international and some US distributors, like Cruiser Outfitters based in Utah.
I have a 1995 with a 1HD-FT and for the past two winters it hasn't run for about 4 months while being stored, no issues thus far. Some basic prep but nothing over the top.
Keep us posted and enjoy your 80!
I can't vouch for them (yet), but check out the Big Country 4x4 option via Rugged Bound. I'm leaning their direction, personally.
That said, it requires drilling into the sheet metal of the body for install. If that's an issue, then the YodaTeq, LCP, or The Cruiser Company (out of Australia)...
