My 83 had missing radio and wasn't able to find a plate as hole is different from earlier years.
Found a guy on ETSY, Paulo from Portugal, who took my dimensions and fabricated one. Very reasonable price fits well, although I did need double face tape to secure properly.
That could be, but pedal feel and stopping distances were good before this happened.
Visible inspection of brakes and lines were done and about 300 miles of soft test driving. No leaks visible, all components appear new and are probably much newer then 12 years, as this was a 12 year project...
Good advice, that someone was probably me who pressed the pedal.
I have put about 300 miles on it since back on the road (20 miles at a time) with no indication of problem. Pedal was high and tight not soft and then out of nowhere BOOM.
The thing that gets me is I had no brake from pedal at...
"When the brake warning light comes on when you brake"
Actually stays on but dimmer when emergency brake disengaged. Good advice to check wires.
The thing that gets me is I had no brake from pedal. Shouldn't I have had one circuit still working?
Thanks
Jim
I have an 83 US FJ40. I purchased after it underwent 10 year restoration, that was abandoned 75% complete. The vehicle would start and ran but was not driven for approx 12 years. The work that was done seems to be a very high level. The prior owner is not accessible, so I do not have a lot of...
Had to look up the meaning of this. Wasn't the original Occam, his name was Mechanic Pete, but believed in same philosophy. One of his better sayings was, that noise is nothing, If it bothers you turn up the radio.
Years ago a friend told me don't always expect the worst. Turns out that the lock nut was not locked down. I guess with vibrations driving, and shifting the adjustment got out of range. I reset the adjustments and truck is back to shifting like butter. Thanks for pointing me to the clutch...
Thanks for the input
I did not change the fluid, does look clean and is right at full line. However, it had been being restored for the last 10 years by PO so could be old.
First thing I will do is change it and see if that helps.
Thanks for the input.
I recently got my FJ40 back on the road after many years sitting. First 100 miles (mostly local, stop and go) ran very well shifted very smoothly. The last 20 miles, intermittently not always, I have had to engage the clutch a second time when changing gears (not specific to any gear, happens 1...
That's funny, Cruiser Jim, he was known as in Patchogue late 80's. I have some pictures of wheeling with him at that time. I need to reach out to him, as I sold my last cruiser in 2001 (mistake), but was able to acquire my current one last year and have slowly been trying to get it road worthy...
