    Rehab of '87 FJ60

So, After a few months and headaches my project is back on the road. A thorough cleaning up and removing of the "unnecessary" stuff under the hood, new carb, 5 speed, timing corrected, all leaks fixed, resto of some interior pieces was done. I know it is no good w/o pictures, but I cannot...

Can anyone tell me what size/fitting the holes in the top of the intake manifold are?

Hi, I was curious about the threads in the holes in the intake that the brake booster vacuum source and the 4 prong vacuum source connect to. What size are they? Thanks. Sorry for the grammar, long shift already.

Fuel level in float bowl Hi Marshall, I was wondering where the fuel level should be in the sight glass? have a bit of a stumble/hesitation, the fuel level is currently at the very bottom of the sight glass. Carb bolted in just fine, small fuel leak easily fixed, started right up. Thanks.

Removing left over gasket material on intake/exhaust

Thanks for the replies. I used a cold chisel and hammer to crease the leftover metal and cause it to "curl up" slightly. After the entire piece was creased I took it off very carefully with the cold chisel, it came off in numerous small pieces. Polished the gasket sealing/mating surface and...

Removing left over gasket material on intake/exhaust

Hello, Anyone have an idea how to remove the metallic gasket material that is baked into/onto my exhaust manifold? When I split the manifolds to replace the gaskets and insulator, the gaskets mostly crumbled except for a portion of the metal gasket material that seems to be permanently bonded...

    Saginaw converted and not impressed!

Be careful about PS pumps and presses My friend just used my press to attempt to install a pulley onto his PS pump for a SuperBee he is rebuilding, bad idea. My wife let him into the garage to use it (I was at work) and he pressed the shaft into the pump, never seating the pulley, destroying...

    Add-a-leaf vendors

Hi all, I have been searching both here and on the internet for add-a-leaf vendors/retailers/suppliers for FJ60 and all I could find was man-a-fre. Are there any other companies that supply these for FJ60s? Thanks for the help.

Would like some opinions on fuel injection please

Thanks for the replies. I got it to start 2 mornings in a row with the temperature 6 and 9 degrees respectively. Some stumbling but not too bad. I think I will go the 3F EFI route, mainly to keep things Toyota. I just have to convince myself it is OK to alter this rig (it is in really...

Would like some opinions on fuel injection please

Thanks for the answers. Has anyone done the 2fe into a 60? It does seem like all the options are expensive or time consuming. I really am not sure I want to do the 2fe if the gains are as minimal as they seem, plus I hate to mess with a vehicle that is in such good condition. As far as...

Would like some opinions on fuel injection please

Happy New Year all. I am at the point where I need to decide to use a 3fe head and all associated FI components or go the GM 4.3l route. Or stay stock, I don't know (see below). Can anybody give me an idea on ease of (or not) installation and overall cost for each. Some real world fuel...

    Redneck fixes

leaf spring fix Busted a leaf spring bad on an old CJ that I had, used the bar the hi-lift rides up (and a whole bunch of wire to hold it in place) to "splint" the spring pack and finished the trip.

    Distributor rotor meltdown

I replaced the cap and rotor on my '87, started right up and ran fine for about 1 minute, then died. It would not start up again, so I pulled the distributor cap off and found the rotor destroyed. The brass contact strip was broken completely off, the rest of it was melted and twisted...

    Looking for 1987 FSM

So much for that idea Dealer wants to charge 30 dollars more per FSM than Toyota's Material Distribution Center. Oh, and they wanted 25 dollares per FSM for shipping. Toyota MDC can back order all 4 available manuals and ship for 145 dollars or so when they arrive. Thanks for the ref# Nigel.

    Looking for 1987 FSM

Found 'em at my local toyota My local dealer is going to order them for me, along with the supplements and revisions. That website is good and I have used it for one manual, just takes forever to download, and I didn't get the whole thing. Thanks for the help.

    Looking for 1987 FSM

I am trying to find FSM(s) for a recently purchased 1987 FJ60. I have copies for my 84 + 85, but can't seem to find a 1987 specific FSM. Any ideas on where to find them would be great. Toyota only has the chassis/body manual for 87, or will the prior years cover 87 as well? Thanks.

    Diesel swap

Not really sure where to post this question. I have not noticed anyone doing Ford/Powerstroke diesel swaps into Toyotas. Is/are there any reason(s) this is not commonly done? If anyone has a post or link to send me to that would be great. I have searched here and on a few other sites with no...
