AUS to CAN import - anyone know the rules?

Got a job lined up (hopefully - still a few things to iron out) in Ontario, Canada and would dearly love to ship my cruiser from Australia when we come. I know it will have the wheel on the wrong side, etc, but well its mine and I want to keep it. I understand that import rules can be hard...

4 alternators in 5 years - any clues..?

This was one of my thoughts - but the alternator belt at least is pretty good. The others are tight and do not directly connect up with the alt...

4 alternators in 5 years - any clues..?

Thanks. The truck is at a shop but I thought I'd do a bit of background reading... Hadn't thought about the third wire, I have one on my MG, but can't remember the back of the truck's (funny - I haven't looked at the MG's in over 3 years but I can remember it clear as day, was staring at the...

How do you repair the roof..?

Hey guys! Just thought I'd reply in this thread to say thanks to everyone who offered advice. As of last month my cruiser is now rust-free! :) I was lucky enough to find a pristine roof off a later car for sale here in Aus bought it for $700 without too much quibble. It took a while to get a...

4 alternators in 5 years - any clues..?

My truck is a '85 FJ60/62 crossover (Aussie), it has the 3F carburetor engine but the circular headlamps... Anyway, it is pretty much standard on the electrics front, except for a pre-made wiring loom I fitted for the headlamp relays, bought from ARB. The trouble is I have blown 4...

Losing brake fluid at the RH rear drum...

Losing brake fluid at the right hand rear wheel, where the copper pipe goes through the back of the drum to (presumably) the wheel cylinder. Any guesses if it might be the coupling of the pipe that i can see from underneath the car, or the join of the brake cylinder to the system that is just...

    guage cluster differences

That's kinda weird, my Australian '85 has the top cluster but the choke and 4wd lights are reversed. It does not have the seatbelt light but the handbrake indicator light (denoted 'park brake' - the 'brake' light refers to brake fluid level). Also these may also be the other way around too...

Taking the body of the FJ60/62...

OK, thanks guys, given me something to think about. I liked the rotisserie idea when i worked on my MG, because that sucker was so low!! I never did it though. Not sure about the truck, cos they are so heavy. That said i'd still read the info if you had it... I prefer the idea though, of...

Taking the body of the FJ60/62...

In the next few months I would like to resto my FJ60/62 crossover. With the exception of one section of the roof that is rusting out (that I will get fixed prior to moving onto anything else incase it is far worse than so far anticipated), the majority of the work will be mechanical. I intend...

&^%&#$# Carb tuning - please tell me where i am going wrong?

Well... Don't i feel a pillock. After reading Marc's answer, i checked everything again, including teh throttle linkage which i had checked to be tight before. I found i could kill the engine by holding it down hard against the stops and that by adjusting the idle screw at the same time as...

&^%&#$# Carb tuning - please tell me where i am going wrong?

Positive! I identified the idle screw from a combination of the diagrams above and the other manual i have. The fast idle one is easier to work out anyway because of it's position. I suppose i may not have set something up correctly... Background: The car has just gone to the...

&^%&#$# Carb tuning - please tell me where i am going wrong?

Thanks for your reply. I reset the mix screw to 1,3/4 turns. The idle is around 650-690rpm. The idle screw is not doing anything but increase the revs by screwing in further, nothing by screwing out further. Is this acceptable. Idle is not brilliantly smooth - sounds about as low as it will...

&^%&#$# Carb tuning - please tell me where i am going wrong?

I cannot get the lean drop method in the FSM to work. Before i turn the FSM into kindling, please can someone either tell me where i am going wrong, or else tell me another way to tune my carb'd 3F?? First up. the carb on my 3F is not the same as that shown in the FSM sketch, because the idle...

    Lean Burn Test..? Or similar...

I heard reference on here a few weeks ago, of someone doing a lean burn test, or something like that from the FSM. I think it was referring to retuning the engine to make sure the carb was running as lean as possible... Does anyone know what I am talking about? I can't see much in the...

    timing ?, advance

A very topical question as i was fiddling with timing last weekend! :) I wondered what 'BTDC people are running. I set mine to the mark this weekend but at +1000m above sea level the engine (3F carb) feels flat and unresponsive. There are no other timing marks other than the ball and...

Weird 'trickling' noise from behind dash - any ideas?

Would air inthe system make the car run cooler as a whole..? I have been investigating my cooling system as the car is running too cold IMO. This weekend i replaced the thermostat and the noise was worse afterwards, but it was present before. I don't think i am losing coolant. I haven't had...

I would like some opinions on POR-15...

I have used it a fair bit in my MG sportscar. Unfortunately i am not too impressed either. It peeled like a rubber skin from it's underside, leaving a the rusty metal exposed. POR stands for paint over rust. Yet i did that (light surface rust, not serious) and still it did not stick, it just...

Weird 'trickling' noise from behind dash - any ideas?

HI I have recently noticed that i am getting what i can only describe as a trickling noise that appears to come from behind the dash around the level of the heater controls. I have moved to a colder part of Australia - we are almost in winter now (very low teens 'c) and so we are using the...

    What thermostat..?

Thanks guys, I will definitely be buying a new thermostat and then delving into the system to fit it and see what is going on. The truck will have struggle through until next monday, but i should be able to sort it then, i will try and remember to let you know what it was, but seriously, that...

    What thermostat..?

Thanks. If the thermostat was knackered (or removed), would this cause the engine to not get hot until long into the journey? I have never looked but i have heard of people removing the thermostat in very hot climes, so I just wondered how this would affect the motor in very cold climes. ~PHIL
