I dont have maintenance recommendations that everyone else mentioned, but if you dont have them on already for cosmetics I'd recommend seat covers, and the led light package all around while you're there, those are hard to come by here in the states here's my rig with the LED...
Any recommendations for alignment shops that can do it the old way? Many of the local shops in the area have turned me away because my vehicle is imported and ancient.

Did you ever figure this out, mine is intermittent but dull at times after driving in the rain. I'm thinking it's grounding out somewhere because of the wires being exposed to water
I registered in South Carolina, and they did not require me to show the vehicle or anything for registration or verification. I believe the customs certificates count as an inspection.
I recently took mine off, but an investment in an eraser wheel by 3m will remove all the residue. The wheel is about $50 but took all my residue off in about 10 minutes of grinding and finishing off with a solvent wipe down.
If you're desperate you can go with AutoZone for aftermarket parts, the tie rod ends cross reference with the 90's north American landcruisers. Good luck
