Wanted: stock 1st generation 4runner rear driveshaft
Trying to track down a horrible vibration in my 85 4runner and looking for a stock replacement driveshaft. Mine is covered in dents.
Im not sure what years are the same, but whatever will work. 22re 5 speed.
Thanks. I am in between...
31 inch tires
I just finished doing my 63 inch swap and I think it looks great with the 31's. I started I used the 3 main leaves and the overload from an 01 2500hd diesel and it flexes awesome and rides great. Looks very symmetrical. I relocated with mid 90's f150 shocks in the rear.
I'm...
I had my 85 4runner transfer case out to clean and replace seals. A part came off from somewhere and I don't know where.
It has a ball bearing that looks like it acts as a key but I can't see where it will fit. I have both driveshaft flanges off and it is seperated from tranny.
Thanks!
Thanks for the reply. Ill go ahead and change those out. When I mentioned the shaft, there isn't any side to side or up and down play, but when I pull it straight out, the shaft and bearing slide out maybe and eight to quarter inch. Ill hope for the best.
Is the seal that is behind where the...
My tranny imploded on my 85 4runner the other day. I've got my replacement on jackstands to clean up and was wondering what easy seals gaskets to change without too much dissassembly.
Also, the replacement is from a parts truck that was well maintained, but if I grab the input shaft, it will...
Just an update
Just an update on my motor situation.
After removing the head and being confused because the gasket didn't look blown, I had the machine shop clean dn pressure test it. Head turned out to be cracked.
Instead of rebuilding the block since I knew I had good compression, I...
I'm glad you took the time to post this up. I hadn't noticed that it was a rough country lift. In that case, I may just buy some ome springs from IPOR, so I can buy local and save on shipping and piece together the rest.
Thanks, I appreciate the extra research.
I was thinking of going with Hell Creek for the suspension on my 85 4runner, but they only had pickups listed.
My searches came up empty. Do solid axle 4runners and pickups utilize the same suspension?
Got the head off
I removed the head today and have a few pictures.
I couldn't see where the gasket blew out. On other cars it has always been more apparent. There also seemed to be a lot of rtv gooped up on the block and gasket, like the head was done before but was coated with rtv gasket...
Sounds like a good plan. I'll post some pics when I get it apart and get some opinions. Time to charge the battery on the cordless impact and get to work.
Can most of the bottom end rebuild be done wite the motor still mounted? I don't have the equipment or the driveway to pull it out. I'm hoping I can just hone the cylinders by hand instead of having the get them bored.
Has anyone ever gone over 100k with a rebuilt motor? My biggest concern...
I've been hoodwinked.
Well, I made a list of the things to check from this thread and everything was checking out.
The oil and coolant were clean when I went to look at the truck, check it a few times. After cranking it over quite a bit in the troubleshooting process, I checked the oil...
Shut down quick
He said it just shut down fast. No strange noises, just died.
Good to know about the fuel filter. I was looking everywhere (except the fsm of course) for where it was.
If it is the timing chain, I saw the kit on engbldrs website with the steel rail. Would it be advisable to...
