Not sure exactly where I got either figure on the 6.5. I may be off on the HP figure- fairly certain of the torque though. My 85 6.2 made 160/415. I would be amazed if the 6.5 had much less then 100 extra ft lbs- judging solely by towing performance though.
This page has figures on both...
The GM 6.5TD from the factory puts out 515ft-lbs and 215hp.
they can be modified (not that I would) to over a 1000ft-lbs and 550hp.
I had the pleasure of test driving a typoon once- ever heard of those?
awsome truck, increadable power, very enjoyable. I'd love to have that kind of power in my...
I should mention I live in a mild climate NC USA. Engine friendly weather & no salt. The 6.2 in my blazer also had a prelube system and ran sythetic oil only.
From My expiriance a GM diesel driven and maintained properly will run upwards of 14 years and easily exceed 200k without major work. Fule pumps are usually the only problums you have with them.
I owned a 85 k5 blazer with the 6.2 and it blew @ 375k miles after towing well over the rated...
Wanted: used 80's parts/accessorys
looking for savings on used or new parts and accessories for 91 fj80:
Low miliage transfer and/or part time 4wd TC conversion kit
rear full float axle with disks and locker.
conversion adaptors for gm trans to transfer- or gm engine to 440.
later model stock...
hehehee :D
Dosn't the thought just make you drool :P let me know how it go's if you do put some on. This is probably way over my head- & my overhead.... :( love the design though; I saw a write up on them a few months ago in a 4x4 magazine- said base price 1500$ea - not sure what that...
thanks for the info, but I think a toyo diesel is not an option for me. I reposted this question on the 80's tech board and have been disscusing the conversion there. The 5.9 would be my ideal choice for an engine, but unfortuantly it won't fit without major lift (5in). My reasoning for the...
here my 2c
10k mile or more oil change intervals on any car is awful- :slap:
Dirty oil causes unessesary engine wear/friction- undisputable.
that will probably make a huge difference in your engines later life. Audi's are very well made cars, (nickle lined cylinders right?) and it still would...
Beowulf: :flipoff2: ;) Guess that's a pretty stupid question since no one here has acctually done this particular conversion. I should have asked - what are common mistakes with engine swaps/ how often/easily can a conversion get screwed up?
Genericfj80: Thanks for all the info and links...
Wow, you guys are great; thanks for all the help.
great news on the driveline :) a440 is used in Bus's and 5ton trucks? Kewl :D So I'm thinking the Trans and TC would hold the power of the 6.5t then.
TLC is awsome! gotta love a vehicle built & enginneered this well.
I'm not...
Thanks for the replies; and I apoligise for not giveing a proper handle. My names Jason, how about calling me NCcruiserguy though. :D
My plans for the truck include occasional heavy towing (probably above the trucks rating of 3500lbs)- and frequent light towing. I wouldn't mind slow...
Hello everyone, your advise please?
I've resently purchased a 91 fj80 with 270k <mall terrain-soccar mom> miles. A half mile gravel drive is the most off roading it's seen. The truck has been dealer searviced with all records, and seams to run and drive fine. Trans shifts smothly 95% of the time...
270k on my 91 and it still runs well, but I need more power/better mileage. :-\
anyone here done a diesel swap? can it be done without a lift?
I'm considering a chevy 6.2, or 6.5 ltr turbo probably with gm auto trans.
cummings would be way better :P but I haven't heard of it being done.
I...
