Ls gear oil in transfer case?

Long answer is in post 2 above. Short answer: your center differential will love ❤️ you. Mechanical things have feelings too.

    Opinion on cylinder condition

EXCELLENT posts from a man who knows. On mine all rod and main bearings were the same - easy peasy.

    Opinion on cylinder condition

A good formula for rust. Iron, moisture and time. Have a trusted engine machinist look and measure. I'm betting a hone won't be enough on that cylinder. Lucky you (seriously). You are on your way to a "new" engine after the rebuild is complete. To quote Martha Stewart, "it's a good thing."

Which Oil Filter Would You Rather Use?(TRD/OEM)

I agree 110% with you! Moreover, their's no dyno, even the best butt dyno in the world that can measure a performance difference between one oil filter and another. I mean, we're talking filtering oil, not blood like our engine is on kidney dialysis. At least I hope 🙏 not.

    P0335…to a bent valve (update...and it's not good)

Agree. Not a perfect solution, but for this scenario; there isn't really a perfect solution.

Oil pan had a very slight leak, changed oils and doesn't leak anymore....anyone ever had that?

Enjoy it. While it lasts. Unfortunately, motor oil won't repair aging seals and FIPG.:meh:

    Post 60k Toyota Dealership Service

We have a friend who was a FORD mechanic, then service writer, now service manager. Dealership $$$ are made in the shop, (not new car sales, in comparison). Service writers do get compensated for upselling. Certainly, they don't need the hassle of selling stuff that will come back to bite them...

    How fked am I?

My vehicle had 372k miles. Pulling the engine isn't difficult and makes every job easy. I wanted (needed) a vehicle I could rely on like new for solo hunting trips in Montana in the middle of nowhere in December. While technically not "broken" replacing seals, bearings, pistons, timing chain, PS...

    How fked am I?

I'd pull the engine and rebuild it; bearings pistons, etc , etc. But, it depends on what you want, i.e., your intended use case. If you want basically a new vehicle that is stone cold reliable for more than a few years, then it's worth it. Provided you do it yourself. Paying someone else is...

Need a new timing chain. Mechanics in Montana?

Unrelated to my comments below, while I live in Sacramento, I have a place on the north side of Bozeman. It seems odd to me that the timing chain is the only thing worn-out. It has a easy life riding in a bath of oil. Now the guide/tensioner I can understand that they would be trash. My gut...

This has been answered 100+ times if you want more info read up on it. Use the search with your preferred browser and include what you’re searching about and I8hmud. You can read for days. ^^^ Yeah, what he said. Or, consult the trusty FSM. So easy I can (almost) do it from memory.

Talk me into buying a 200 series

The cool factor is for you only. Nobody knows what a LC or LX is, mine gets mistaken for a 4 Runner frequently

Talk me into buying a 200 series

The points made by others re: LX570 are generally true for 3 reasons 1) more of them = a bit better price 2) less likely to have been driven hard off road, or driven off road at all (soccer moms going to the mall) 3) more likely to have been dealership maintained; which at Lexus is usually a...

TECH Question: Mechanic says my LX450 might have a blown head gasket

Especially well put! When I did mine @372k miles. My end goal was basically a new "old" beast. Even though it was working good, I PM'd everything. Pulling the engine to do seals, bearings, pistons, etc. was faster. Including everything else ~15k$. my labor was "free." Result? A vehicle I know...

    LC 250 pricing

To add to the above. Studies show (and dealers know this) that buyer satisfaction increases when people go through the "grinding" process; because they feel like they worked for a good deal and got the better of the dealership. Reality is that the dealership has many angles to get a profit, from...

    New-To-Me 1997 LX450

Good catch. Lexus decided to go with the much more durable reciprocating Dingle arm; even though replacing those Bushings is expensive. Good thing they opted to not add the turbo encabulator - for fuel economy reasons, no doubt. :slap:

    New fzj80 owner

Yep. It's time. I've seen (mine when I bought it) worse. Make friends with: 1) FSM aka, factory service manual, I got a new one off ebay 2) Ottram video(s) Cruiser outfitters has excellent kits, might as well do all the bearings and brakes. Examine carefully the flexible brake lines, and expect...

Why are OEM tires so bad?

I'll get flamed, but... A) toyota knows that the bulk of owners aren't even going on gravel roads, a nice compliant tire is what soccer moms want for trips to the mall B) the stock tires are surprisingly capable (for what they are), got me through 3 high Sierra blizzards passing people like they...
