Hi LeftHandRev,
glad it helped you. I also created a separate thread that I linked below on my new glow wiring that I now have installed. That might be of interest for you also...
Thanks for the information, I guess the Toyota one would be fine for me. The Toyota one comes with the padding also I guess? Do you happen to know the part number?
Many thanks.
Stuart.
Those pictures are perfect, they will be useful to me too. Do you mind me asking where you got that roll bar from? I have seen a few guys with these ones that have the padding attached, is this the Toyota one? Many thanks.
Stuart.
Yeah that is true, I also live in a cold climate, we can get it quite cold here in the Czech Republic. I will have to see how it goes, unfortunately I finished it in the spring so its not a good time for testing it. I have to wait for the winter again and then if it doesn't work out I can switch...
Just adding my Wilson switch setup here, I hope it will help someone: My Wilson switch setup with anti-clockwise twist to glow on the ignition - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/my-wilson-switch-setup-with-anti-clockwise-twist-to-glow-on-the-ignition.1256572/
Hi All, just wanted to add my glow setup to this thread, I documented it here so hopefully it might be useful to someone at some point: My Wilson switch setup with anti-clockwise twist to glow on the ignition -...
You are welcome, I hope it helps someone out there. I had to go with this solution because when I got my BJ40 the whole glow system was already hacked up and not functioning correctly.
Hi All,
I just wanted to give something back and share my Wilson switch setup. I have put diagrams below of the 2 options I had and I went with using the ignition anti-clockwise turn as my momentary switch. I thought this was the most elegant option and I liked that it works similar to the...
Some very nice answers here, also gives me ideas how I deal with having 12v accessories in the future. I was also thinking about a 3rd battery, I guess there is space in the engine bay still. This is a distant project for me I guess. Good luck graymudder, if I lived in Canada and somewhere...
I thought my setup from previous owners was bad, this sounds like a total disaster :-( I would try to put it back to how it was originally, if possible. If you need some reference info than I can look at my wiring but it seems each one of these Land Cruisers is unique. Mine is a 1978 BJ40, 3B...
Hi graymudder,
thanks for your tips. So I have a bunch of wires, relay and glow light prepared for installation, I am also working on a wiring diagram so I can share it once I know its all working. I have a 100amp fuse for the wire between the relay and the positive terminal on my battery. My...
Yes please, if there is a number for them maybe I can order from Toyota here. I already managed to order quite a few bits from my local dealer. I have a 24v 1978 BJ40 with a 3B engine and maybe wiring from a BJ42, but I am still not sure. Often I look the wiring colours up and they fit the 80s...
Hi llewdis,
thanks for the snippets from that manual. I am currently trying to figure out how to correct/repair my glow system since the previous owners seem to have made a mess of it. I will probably go with a Wilson switch and remove the old glow relay stuff which looks to be mostly missing...
I see, OK, makes sense. I would like something like that eventually. I just want to get my BJ up and running so I can get it through the MOT and drive it for a few years before I restore it.
Yeah it gets pretty cold here, we had -20 a couple of weeks ago so I want to make sure my glow is...
Hi,
Thanks for the suggestion. I think my electrical knowledge is too primative at the moment to be able to do something like this. Maybe it's adding too much complexity? Thanks anyway for all your help. I am currently looking for a relay for my new setup.
Thanks for your reply. I think my glow plugs are fine, they are brand new and seem to be working fine with a 24v direct connection I used to test the startup as per my video above. I was just asking @duncanrm how he can see problems with his glow plugs, and how it works from his dash mounted...
