Not as involved as some of the other projects here, but did manage to find the time for a coolant drain and refill on my ‘87 this weekend. Hunting down a slight “running hot” issue. Figured I’d start with coolant refresh and go from there. Think I may have a bad radiator cap too, so got an OEM...
so just had the brake master cylinder, booster AND alternator replaced. Geesh, old truck things right?
next up, is it time for a knuckle rebuild? Anyone on Nashville area for experience doing it and how hard is it?
Correct. The weber doesn't have a kick up solenoid is how it was explained to me. I was told that they set it like that to compensate for the AC at idle.
Anyone on here from Brentwood, TN driving a badass grey with blue paneling FJ62? Passed that truck while I was out on the bike today and damn near pulled a U turn to follow it. Gorgeous truck if ti belongs to anyone on here.
I'll adjust the carb when I get it back form the shop. It runs fine, but they had the idle adjusted up 1000 to compensate for the AC when its running. At idle at 1000 rpm without the AC, the AC drops it to 750 rpm at idle when it's on. The truck diesels and sputters for a second occasionally...
AWESOME!!!! @Zjohnsonua @tone33 @ukaviator I will definitely do my damnedest to make it to the meet up on 4/10. Sounds awesome! And thanks also for reaching out and the heads up. This site is a massive wealth of information and everyone has been so awesome on here.
So, I think the carb is...
I don't. I believe it's the factory radio. Supposedly, the PO somehow added a bluetooth hook up to it, but I'm not sure how he did it and haven't used it yet.
I also need somewhere to mount my spare tire. With the 40 gal long haul tank where the spare is supposed to mount under the truck, the spare rides in the cargo space. I looked at a hitch mount carrier, but they're almost as much as a new bumper.
Some new bits are in and installed. Got the clutch and brake pedal covers recommended, new rear wiper and and new air cleaner for the weber carb.
Next on the list:
New rear bumper (leaning towards a 4x4 labs with tire swing)
rock sliders (thinking white knuckle)
roof rack (dunno know which...
Thanks for the words of encouragement. I have definitely dug into the whole Weber carb thing and learned a ton about them in just the one day. Lots of resources on them (especially on Jeep forums). Also talked with a mechanic today who is pretty well versed in them and Land Cruisers too. I...
Soooo....more to this story. I’m just a moron and don’t know what I’m doing. Thought I had a Weber 38, but it’s a Weber 32/36. Will attempt to destroy my truck by working on it again tomorrow. :/
Welp....went to try to adjust the weber carb today per the weber setup to try to get my idle below 1000 rpm. No go. Looks like I need new jets or start rabbit trailing down other issues. The idle mixture screws are bottomed out and the idle speed screw is WAY too far in.
