Dredged up from the Past
I decided to pull my old thread up and say that after 6 years on the IROKs I really like them. Except in the deepest bog they've pulled me through everything without winching. 5.29 gears are perfect with 37x14.5 Iroks and they clean out pretty easily with some wheel...
Yep, turns out the plug was loose and backed out. It only messed up the last thread and they were able to thread a plug back in the hole without an issue. I'd guess someone didn't tighten the plug properly since it only has 8X,000 miles on it and it was tuned up before my friend bought it last year.
Anyone have a cruiser spark plug strip and blow out of the head while driving? My friend just had this happen on his 97 Lexus and is wondering what is the best fix. I suggested for him to tap the hole if the threads are just messed up and if it was bad to do a helicoil. Has anyone else had this...
I'm running 37x14.5 Irok's and have broken one birfield.
No, I don't think you are going to get 37's on with no lift. I had 315's on mine with no lift and they rubbed when turning and on bumps. I don't think you can cut enough out of the front of there rear opening due to the door. I went cheap...
Do you have a winch? On board air or power tank? I thought I liked my cruiser with stock gears and 35's, then I regeared and was thrilled by all the power that I got back. I had 37's already for my off road tires so I went with 5.29's.
Yes, I just blew one this weekend. I had slipped off a rock and was about to flop, so I tried to back out of it.. Bam! Now the real question is to go with Longfields and give up some longevity or stay stock and figure to blow another.

I need a drivers side taillight for my '93 FZJ80 I think any 80 series or LX450 will work. I'm in AK so Priority Mail will be the cheapest shipping. Email me a price
Thanks

Check you wheel bearings and spindle. I highly doubt you bent the axle, these are full floating like a 1 ton truck. My cruiser was rolled when I bought it and the axles didn't get damaged at all. I've abused Toyota's for many years- running them through the Hammer trails etc and never have bent...
I did a 4 crawler 1" body lift on mine a couple of years back, was a good mod for me. I needed just a bit more lift to clear 37's with J springs. It went on smooth, just lowered the radiator and adjusted the shifter linkage. I was able to clear 35's without rubbing with stock springs and the 1"...
Get the MilePost map book. It gives all points of interest, best fuel stations, parks/ campgrounds etc. I would not drive the Alcan without it. You want to carry a spare fuel can if you haven't upgraded the stock tank and a good spare tire. VHF radio is best for communication up here but CB's...
Forget sensible, what kind of trails do you want to run and how important is it to have traction? The 80 is the absolute best daily driver/serious trail rig. Think of the money you will spend on a '99 and newer 4 runner, then the lift, tires, lockers, gears etc. You can run the 33's with no lift...
I'm running 37x 14.5" wide bias IROK's on my '93 FZJ 80. I like the extra width, but only run them in the summer months. They handle a lot better than the old TSL's that I've run, and with the siping and tread compound they actually do pretty go on the snow and ice. I'm running 35" BFG all...
