80 series rear hubs on a79 (v8 model in oz)

Having re-read the post I can say the spindles are interchangeable between our 75, 79 and 80 series as well as others. If the spindles fit the bearings fit, and as such any hub will fit. Years ago our 75's where upgraded to 79 series hubs just to streamline parts, especially tires and rims.

80 series rear hubs on a79 (v8 model in oz)

I have had 79 hubs on an 80. The key is the spindle but don't really worry because it's normally a part number change. You can even use 79 series C.V's with 80's drive flanges if you slightly grind the outer shaft above the snap ring. Pretty certain an Aussie could make this fit with a hammer...

    78 series death wobble

Have you personally checked the wheel bearing? Lift both tires or one at a time and feel for any play in the hubs. I just did my Hdj80 last week, bearings were slightly loose. Tightened inner nut to 20ft lbs( not factory spec) and she is nice and smooth. This takes mere minutes to complete.

Front wheel bearings for the win.

Ignition issues. Looking for a little guidance.

If the starter is whining, and the engine isn't turning over then check the starter. Try quick key turns to get engagement of starter and flywheel. Sometimes a love tap to the starter with the wooden end of an axe or shovel will help. Lastly make sure you have a good battery.

    1hdft overheating

Expect no less! Tweaking, hills, wind all contribute to heat. Your OEM temp gauge will barely/ if move at 97C. Water boils at 100C, obviously you run coolant and have a proper functioning rad cap, which at 14psi will bring the boiling point over 105 to110C I would never worry about 97 degrees C...

    1hz smooking in the morning

A proper 1HZ will start at -30C, we've run many of these which stay outside all night long. Yes we might cycle the glow plugs a few times and add a bit of throttle but they start. They also run on 15W40 and that is common for the underground mining fleet.

    1hz smooking in the morning

Glow plugs to begin with. Smoking at start up until the engine warms up is a clue. One bad glow plug is all you need to cause smoke, so change them all.

    Parts

More of a note to the future! Being retired I can hardly remember what day of the week it is. The HZJ75 has over 500,000, so this bit of care should help her for years to come.

90366-75001 is for a Factory Locked front diff x1, and 90366-50007 x1 90366-50007 is for an Open diff x2. Example I need two of these in my Aussie spec HZJ75 with open front. about to receive an Eaton locker. The 90366-50007 should be simple to source because they are found on FJ. Hilux, ...

If only you knew an old TV repairman. Used an old fellow to repair the board on a1985 BJ70. He did it for free...mind you I did buy him coffee.

    Part number help

Try the Diesel/24v section on the main forum page. Meanwhile, I suspect you are looking for an injection pump part. If yes you will find many common parts throughout most Toyota diesels. 22741-54020 maybe. Would help if you add some info regarding your engine & drivetrain, year of build, and...

    1HD-T Voltage Converter Relay Question

Check fusible links! They might look good, but they are old. May light up a tester, but can it supply sufficient current? Verify that the fusible link from the battery is up to snuff by trying a length of fused wire out to the starter relay while waiting for your parts. I took this even further...

Intro and question on shifting issues

Ahh! When coming out of 3rd to second, nudge 1st a wee bit, then a shot of fuel and shift into Second as rev's decrease. This is all feel and timing. Gets better with practice and this should be smooth, without noise or drama. Sounds like the gearbox requires some TLC. Like me you will...

    1HZ Stuttering Issue

Install a clear hose from the IP(injection pump) to the fuel filter. Any air will show up as bubbles. Bubbles will tell you that air is being sucked in up stream. Tighten things up and or repair the system until the clear line no longer has air bubbles. If need be strap a gopro or camera and...

    Best all around Snow Chains

Heavy mud type chains when you are in absolute s***. Drive slowly, check and tighten often. Spinning will get you nowhere, so throttle accordingly. I carry 4 heavy chains, and sometimes you use all 4 and other times one will do. This takes practice. Chain up before you decide to do...

Pesky Heater Hose (PHH) and that Pesky Bottom Bolt (PBB)

FYI Considering the pia factor please consider how the HZ and Hdt's are plumbed. The diesels run a hose! Now for anyone considering adding a convention type coolant heater this makes installation a simple task. As with any install, use good hose, good clamps and if you are paranoid, you can...

    A442F Transmission issue

Not certain but speed sensor or temperature sensor. Now, If this truck drives well when locked in low range then you DO NOT have a transmission problem that I can think of. Please verify that this is the case. Drive it around through all ranges of acceleration.
