    Federal vs. calif carb differences?

136 is too big for that carb, it will cruise at 12AFR dropping to 10AFR when the PV opens.

    Federal vs. calif carb differences?

If it has a 28mm primary, then it's CA spec, AFAIK. 124 is about right, maybe drill to 1.25mm if the engine wants it.

Early F engine water pump conundrum

FWIW, the change date on the WP location is from engine # F-243298. Missed it by <that> much. Edit: For the OP, this is a lot of work & hassle to run a mismatched engine. Bummer of a situation. For the amount of effort, it would make more sense to toss in a late 2F, with 68-74 intake & exhaust...

Builds Removing SBC conversion, going back to Toyota. 1972 Frame Off

Beautiful, right down to the switch cover. Props for using genuine Toyota screwdriver on the lash adjuster screw! BTW, The lash adjuster locknut is loose in this pic.

Builds Removing SBC conversion, going back to Toyota. 1972 Frame Off

Yes, the motor is always hot with ignition on. The switch grounds one wire for low speed motor winding, a different wire for high speed winding. Color codes vary a bit through the years. Yes, the motor case has to be grounded for the park switch to ground the motor winding until it reaches the...

    Side of the road question

Yes, the main jet supplies both the main circuit and the idle circuit. If the idle jet is restricted, then there's no idle, but will kinda run at 50% throttle. If the main jet is restricted, then it won't run at higher throttle but may idle weakly if there is enough fuel leaking through the main...

1982 FJ60 2F - oil pressure sender Denso vs Yazaki?

Is there a Denso cluster for USA FJ40? I've never seen one. The yazaki numbers all interchange. Operating parameters are the same. FWIW, They are bimetallic, not variable resistors. The presence of the grounding tab has no effect on the sender itself. The ground tab is not used in Cruiser...

    Cam And Lifter Woes

Yes, 5W40 is the synth equivalent to 15W40 diesmal oil. They are all fine for these old tractor engines, as long as there is enough metal in the oil, usually from a ZDDP or MOS2 additive. The 15W40 has been going up in price, and the 5W40 M1 TDT or Rotella T6 has been on sale, so the synth is...

    Aftermarket Performance 2F Cams

Delta can rebuild any cam. It will cost extra to have severely worn lobes or bearings welded back up, but if it's an obscure vintage car that's what is done.

    Cam And Lifter Woes

The pushrods rotate because they are sitting on the rotating lifter.

Pop Question about 2F Piston/Head Tradeoffs

Definitely not Toyota. Cheap Stone gasket by the look of it.

    Cam And Lifter Woes

There is no crown on F series lifters & no taper on the cam lobe. Rotation is induced by the lobe centerline offset from lifter centerline. Tapered cam lobe & crowned lifter is a post-war technology.

    Aftermarket Performance 2F Cams

CWC makes most of the aftermarket cam blanks. They grind some, others go to companies like isky or Comp for their proprietary grind.

    Cam And Lifter Woes

It's a racing oil. I use it in my racecar, and change it very frequently. My big stoopid Cruiser engine is lotsa idle time, lotsa fuel blowby, lotsa carbon. The kind of trash that diesel oil is formulated to deal with.

    Carburetor leak

Don't use flanged nuts at the carb base. Because of the closeness to the vertical casting, the 13mm hex or 12mm flanged nut will not lay flat on the carb base. Also, there are no washers there. Just a plain M8 thread, 12mm hex nut. Toyota PN 94110-40800, which supercedes up to 90170-A0001. $.80...

    2F Air Rail Plugs

Plugs & caps are available here: 2F Cap & Plug Kit - https://tlcperformance.com/products/cap-plug-kit A note on thread sealant, loctite, antiseez.... After 1 or 2 years in service at 1,400degrees EGT, it's all moot. The loctite or teflon sealant is burned to ash, the antiseez grease is cooked...

    Cam And Lifter Woes

I recommend good 5W40 diesel oil, plus an additive. Any new street legal oil does not have enough metal in it, because even diesels have O2 sensors and catalysts now. I don't recommend any racing oil because racing oils are for 1 weekend of use, not long term chugging around in the dirt.

Pop Question about 2F Piston/Head Tradeoffs

The 81-87 closed chamber 61040 head and flattop piston setup is more efficient for various reasons. Unfortunately, the 81-87 head casting was lightweighted and the casting is thin in places, leading to thermal cracking either because of an overheat or just a lifetime of thermal cycling. They are...
