Downey 22 Gallon Fuel Cells Becoming Available Again

Hey Jim, I have a 1971 FJ40 project that I picked up partially complete. The previous owner sold the project with either a Con-Ferr tank or one of your tanks. Is there a simple way to tell the difference between the two? The P.O. had installed an in-tank pump, but I don’t have that receipt so...

Shackle Angle / Installation- Opinions Sought

Great information, both video & Pin Heads follow up. I'm clearly a newb and am looking for suggestions regarding proper angle for a capable off-road rig that has decent manners on pavement. I'm installing a SU, 3" OME lift - planning on running either 33's or 35's (rig came with a 1" body...

Shackle Angle / Installation- Opinions Sought

Doing research on shackle angle and looking to figure out layout for shackle hanger. How do you determine position after measuring length of top leaf Maximum eye to eye) and minimum eye to eye? What's the calc to come up with correct position?

    Ultimate SUA Suspension??

Hey Andrew, I know that this is an old thread but I'm reading through old suspension threads doing research for a current project (my first FJ40 so my baseline understanding is pretty much zero... ) and was wondering if you'd mind reposting those photos as they're expired or no longer available...

Mark's Offroad Auxiliary Tank Set up

I have one of these tanks that came with a project I picked up about a year ago. It's never been used and the PO did not finish the install on it and although he kept decent records, he didn't have the paperwork (receipt and instructions) for this unit. Does anyone have the instructions in pdf...

How to identify where a shackle came from and if there is a lift incorporated.

Thanks for weighing in snaggletto. What would those reasons be on the 35" tire option? I'm not sure which size tire I'd go with but would appreciate the education either way.

How to identify where a shackle came from and if there is a lift incorporated.

It wasn't mentioned but I'm up speed on that aspect. I included that picture as a reference when trying to identify the shackle reversal kit and it seems like there is a kit identified in the thread - which is great, I'll reach out to BTB to learn more about it. As much of a newb as I am - I do...

How to identify where a shackle came from and if there is a lift incorporated.

I don't see identification #'s on the leaf springs - front or back - I could be missing the #'s if not located in obvious place... Tire size as it sites is 30". I'd like to put either 33's or 35's on it eventually. I did just measure from top center of axle to bottom/top of frame - positioning...

How to identify where a shackle came from and if there is a lift incorporated.

And the rear shackle pics. And a couple pics from when I picked it up last spring. It's a 1970 FJ40 - Body is in decent shape - bought it from a guy in Cali who I believe was the 8th owner....

How to identify where a shackle came from and if there is a lift incorporated.

I've been more of a lurker than a contributor on this website but that's about to change. I have an FJ40 project that I picked up about a year ago. I'm finally getting started on diving in to finish this and get it back on the road. One of the questions I have with this rig is how to identify...

2000 miles of back roads in a 55-year old FJ40

Another good mapping option is onX gps maps. There are two versions, one specific to hunting and the other specific to "Off Road" trails, tracks etc. https://www.onxmaps.com/offroad/app

2000 miles of back roads in a 55-year old FJ40

Make sure you can text in and out with your Spot Device - not just sending preset messages. If not - you might want to look into the Garmin Inreach Explorer. I have the original but the new mini is great. You pair it to your phone, has great gps, earthmate maps and the ability to send/receive...

Requesting some eyes on an FJ40 for sale in Chattanooga - I live in Idaho...

I'm a relatively new IH8 member, I joined to educate myself about FJ40's in general as I keep an eye out for the right "project" to purchase this spring - I've been an admirer of these trucks for 20 years and finally decided I better get one for myself. I've been impressed with the amount of...

Requesting some eyes on an FJ40 for sale in Chattanooga - I live in Idaho...

There is an FJ40 for sale in Chattanooga. I'm in Idaho - far away from everywhere, but it'll be a great place to have an FJ - once I find the right one.... If anyone had the interest or the time to help a FJ Newb out with a drive by and once over, I'd appreciate it. One day, once I learn a few...
