I agree entirely. I'm kinda shocked the 80 has gotten so popular though. It's, at least as I see it, a bit of a niche vehicle, at least in the United States. Most people (myself included, frankly) would be better served by a 100 or a 200 if they wanted a Cruiser. I really like hardcore vehicles...
Good eye, I didn't even notice any of that stuff, or in some cases, didn't even know those things where wrong to begin with. In my defense, I am definitely not an expert in JDM 60 series!
RE: General weirdness - for what it's worth (again, not an expert on this), if you've ever perused some of...
Yeah, I feel the same way - if I had wanted an 80 a few years ago, and bought one then, I'd be in much better shape from a cost perspective. Hell, it seems like if I had even just bought one right before the pandemic (which I almost did a few times) I'd be in a better spot than I am in now...
Since I spend entirely too much time perusing the various car selling sights looking at old Japanese 4x4's, I sometimes come across what I think are some pretty interesting finds. This, IMO, is one of them: a (at least based on the photos) really nice high-roof HJ60 at a used car dealer just...
Alright, I apologize, I'm going to hijack this thread a little. It will be relevant stuff though!
So, long story short, I was thinking about formally starting almost the same search you are on, even if frankly I should really be looking at 100's given my use case. I'm in the same area as you...
Going to echo this exact sentiment. The quality (like new) and story (used as a fire department command truck) are both fantastic. I love the hand painted letters, and I love seeing Cruisers that had real, serious jobs in a past life (even if this job meant the Cruiser apparently did almost...
Just updated the thread to show this!
Yeah, I personally wouldn't want to be playing paperwork games either, but apparently not everyone feels the same, as evident here. This Cruiser, despite being not being particularly nice, unlocked, needing some work, and having a missing title, managed to...
I've thought about that a lot myself. I was telling a family member about how desirable 80 series with the "magic dial" where, and she asked "why didn't they all have that option if it's so desirable then?"
At the time, I said "must have been a cost thing" but then later, I saw an original...
Sorry to thread-jack a little bit, but I just stumbled across a 2005 LC on Facebook today. Other than having a classic ARB Bullbar on it, it looks rather normal. Here's where things get interesting and relevant to this thread however: according to the add, it has 455,000 miles on it! The guy is...
Also interested to learn more. Will not lie, if the ticking/knocking ends up meaning new engine time (or I guess theoretically time to rebuild the current engine, but I'm not sure if people actually regularly do that with the 1FZ-FE), then it might be a bit more of a project than I'm currently...
See my earlier post in this thread - that was my source of confusion too. Based on everything I've read, as a private party I'd have to use a broker for this bid even though it's a clean title vehicle. Copart's website had a section that breaks down who can buy what based on each state's laws...
Figured it was too good to be true. Although I did nearly get a "too good to be true" rig once that was, in fact, actually true, so now I always double check before writing these things off.
Will be curious to see what this ends up selling for. I'm not familiar with the Copart buying market...
Oh man, I sorta walked into this one, didn't I?
Pre-pandemic, my budget was around $8K for a triple-locked 80 with the knowledge at that price, it would have some substantial miles and likely need a few things. I actually nearly bought a 3X locked LX450 from Mud member right as this pandemic...
Long time lurker, first time poster. Figured there'd be no better way to jump into the Mud community then to probe it's wealth of knowledge regarding finding and buying good Cruisers!
So when I first saw this - high mileage LX450, but triple-locked and from the desert so presumably rust free, I...
