I went back and forth between the two before settling on the 4runner. And now every time I pass a 470 on the road, I think "that's my next car." You've got the pros and cons all laid out. That being said, you might go for a stock 4runner if you're looking to save money. The lifted ones are more...
Hi all. The stereo on my 4runner failed after a few weeks. I just replaced it. Other than that (and paying too much), so far so good. If you buy from them, definitely go through ebay, and definitely check badvin.org before you make an offer.
As Trowand said, it is something to go on their lot...
Brought the 4runner to a trusted mechanic. The antenna mast they installed was aftermarket and has failed within 2 weeks. I will need to replace the entire antenna motor assembly. Also, there's vibration when I feather the breaks. According to my mechanic, Dave cut corners on the front brake...
Hi All - I just bought a 3rd Gen 4runner from Dave. Very glad I found this thread before buying. I checked badvin.org. I spent 3 hours with an experienced mechanic inspecting the vehicle at their location. They let me use one of their lifts. Then, at my request, they took it to Firestone to make...
I went to see it and it was a hard pass. The paint in the photos looks nice, but when I went to see it, leaking axles and possible head gasket leaks meant "no thanks". Too bad because it was one of the nicest most cooperative sellers I've met.
98runnerguy - I want a good truck for excursions...
Thanks guys. I went to see it and there was some flaking rust on some parts. I passed on the car. Basically, I'm OK if there's one issue. If there are three major issues, I pass. In this case, it was leaking on the rear axle onto the drums, possible head gasket leak. Some interior issues as well.
Did a very thorough Zoom with the seller. Seems legit, straight up about known issues, and willing to do a deal. I decided to go with a 4runner, so passed on this one. It seems to be a good deal.
Hi all - Looking to buy an LX 450 / 80 Series or 3rd Gen 4runner Limited. Bottom line is that the vehicle has no rust on frame, well maintained with service history, and good interior. Prefer leather and CD/cassette sound system. I'll be using it as a daily driver, and for camping, limited...
Noob here in the market for a 80 Series/ LX 450. As I'm not a mechanic, I've been relying on dealer service departments for pre-purchase inspections. Anyone have experience with this? How to identify decent techs remotely? What to make of the reports? Thanks!
