I had the same thoughts with my 60 about a year ago. Decided against the swap and put in an AXT turbo, as could not justify replacing my 3B that starts at -25oC (grudgingly), gets 12 km's per litre, with near perfect compression and just hitting its prime at 360,000 km's.

Placed a piece of cardboard or "winter front" inside the grill, this will inhibit air flow and allow the engine operating temp to increase. Just remember to cut a little hole in the centre (keep and eye on operating temps and find the hole size that works best)
Goto Radio shack or a electronics store, you can sometimes find cheap ($20) DC to DC converters hiding, just make sure you bring a voltmeter along to test outputs. The easiest is to find someone who sells IDEC power supplies... a good one should run about $120, or you can build your own out of...
The secondary Choke switch may a contact closure going to the EDIC manually placing it into the over inject mode (same as start on the ignition), a handy switch to have as once you get it running, you can give your rig a fuel boost if you need extra power.
