Man, really sorry to hear about losing your Lab. It’s tough for sure. You get so attached. Leaves a hole. Way to focus all that emotion though . You got a ton done! I’m impressed! And inspired!
My hardtop sides aren’t too bad. I got a great set of front doors from Toyota Matt and I sourced a new pair of rear doors out of Saudi Arabia. The actual top may need some serious love.
If had it to do over I would go aluminum tub probably. I’m pretty much committed to steel now. Anyway, I think it will be a fun if nit very long project.
Yeah, probably a good idea to work in small areas as opposed to just cutting out everything. I had thought of putting the top back on just long enough to cut and weld. The first chance I get I will take photos of what I’m dealing with.
I very interested in what you’ve done. Looks fantastic. My 79 is in just about the very same shape your was in except the PO had it painted red. Absolutely awful paint job. You’ve done a great job.
I’ve got a 79 too that I’m just starting on. Probably the rustiest vehicle I’ve ever seen. I’m replacing almost every body panel on it. Apparently the rust didn’t scare me off, maybe I’m crazy too, as they say, misery loves company. If the price is right it would be very cool to resurrect it...
Is there any certain order that a body tub needs to be repaired. I’m replacing everything but the cowl assembly, the b pillars and the attached quarter panel top rails. Should I just cut the cowl from the main tub or should I replace rockers and quarters first. Any help is Greatly appreciated...
