And it works! I have the temp gauge on a small autometer set which is why temp is zeroed out. The small tach is just temporary for me to adjust my head to the expected RPM’s at highway speed.

Thank you for the kind words. In a kind of while I was in there moment, removed and cleaned the glass and the rubber gaskets. There was at least a couple of ounces of Idaho dust cleaned out between the front of the instrument panel and the rubber gasket for the glass. Found the perfect paint for...

Watched a couple of good videos on the tube, one by @JVZii and one by Hodakaguy. Sorry don’t know his handle on Mud. How to test the fuel gauge. Both excellent videos. Removed the gauge and did the recommended tests. Used my trusty 3.8W bulb tester. This has been very useful for all sorts of...

Headlights and parking/turn signal lights issue

Grab your circuit diagram for your year and the make some copies. On one of the copies sketch in any changes you have made. This might point you to the logic issue. The light switch has a bunch of connections.

Driving around with my new spare firmly in place, noticed the fuel gauge is not working. troubleshooting performed 1. Fuel sensor measures 28 ohms, seems about right for the fuel level in the tank 2. Checked wire continuity from tank to round connector on back of gauge 3. Followed FSM Well...

Been awhile since I did Olympic weightlifting but it did not feel too bad. Tire installed! And about 5mm clearance.

The offset needed for the 33x12.5 tire is just under 2 inches, so found some 3/16 rectangular tube. 2x3 inch. Perhaps overkill but it should work.

A wheel spacer that is a good idea, thanks Welded up the hook and the over center latch, not perfect but it should work. And the latch It does not seem to lock over center very well. Will see how it goes with the tire in place. Thanks for all the informative and kind comments.

The spare tire mount is made very solidly With the 33x12.5 tire will need to offset the mount. And will need to weld up the over center latch. And then figure out how to lift a 90lb tire and rim four feet in the air…. It used to be easy, but not as much anymore

Now to tackle the sheet metal. How this got as bad as this don’t know, so here we go. Some cracks at the top Insert a piece of previously cut 18 ga steel. Using fitzee fab cut and shut method more or less. Fit one side in, and tack weld, then push the other side and tack. Then using a cutting...

My welding sucks, but seems strong enough. The wheel and tire weighs 90lbs, and the center of mass is about a foot out from the body. That is quite a lever so I can see why the sheet metal has pulled out and cracked. And in place Will sandblast, grind and paint this tomorrow. If I was going to...

Holley in tank fuel pump module. Who's done one?

This has some good info on the location of the in tank pump - although not the Holley version, the location makes sense and is where I will be doing mine later this year. FJ40 In-Tank Electric Fuel Pump Build - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/fj40-in-tank-electric-fuel-pump-build.918766/

Lucy the LC: 1969 FJ40 Rebuild: Brake Question

Would you mind expanding on "I'm happy with my home-brew plating solution so far." As a fan of home brew plating myself, curious as to what you are using. Cleanliness is indeed the key to making this work. I trust you were not hit too hard with the storm through your area, I am just up the road...

Thanks to all for replies. I do have the gusset although it looks like I did the welding🤣 We will clean this up and use it. I believe the issue is the weight of the spare tire, some physics would point to the mount being pivoted at the bottom mount, so the top mount is being pulled outwards. My...

Just picked up a new Toyota 15 inch rim for a spare. The spare mount has pulled at the body so will be doing a patch. There is a sort of backing plate, it looks home made, will reuse it but was thinking to tie it back to the roll bar mount. That should make it stronger. Thoughts and suggestions...

Anyone add a Vacuum booster to 40 clutch master?

Why does the booster need to be on the pedal end? Could it be on the Clutch Slave Cylinder end? there seems to be more space on that side of the engine?

    Fan in heater box possible?

That looks good, it will probably not have the CFM of the squirrel cage fan in the engine compartment, but it will certainly draw in air. Nice idea.

manual steering gear box - oil or grease?

I filled mine with grease, and as it is so close to the headers, there is some leaking of the grease (presumably as it gets hot and less viscous) It need a rebuild for sure. This may be one thing I take to a specialist shop to rebuild, if only to not have to deal with the pitman arm.
