I'm over the moon with my Legendex. I got it through superior engineering out of AUS. Regardless of what you get, go ahead and purchase new exhaust hangers - you'll need them!
Looks great so far!
I got a 1992 HDJ81 about a year ago as my first non-German car ever. I found it on Mud for cheap.
So far, so good.
Following along for ideas, etc.

You'll need a specific tool to check your timing. I have no idea about your engine, but generally you need a runout gauge with a specific adapter. You're measuring fractions of a MM in piston movement inside the pump. Broadly, if it gives a little white smoke on startup, and then the exhaust is...
Yeah, that'll happen!!
I remember when I took a 1985 Jetta Turbo Diesel, and rebuilt it with a 3" SS turbo back and set the boost to 30PSI, and my break in experience was similar. Especially the "Holy ..." part...
Boost is really addictive. Is this your first turbo car?
ENJOY!!!
I used Superior Engineering out of Australia.

Very happy with the product, but it is very quiet. You might consider ordering the "berserker" pipe if you want it to actually make noise.
I mostly did it to drop temperatures. I always do large exhausts on my diesels.
It's imperative that you tell them a rando on the internet said this is unacceptable!
You're becoming like the kid in high school that swears he has a hot girlfriend, but she lives in Canada. And he doesn't have any pictures of her.
I hope you know I'm just messing with you. It's a freaking...
Wow! You can still post the dyno videos. I know you were videoing that shizz!
You were running a factory head gasket? Not surprised it committed seppuku. What about improved head studs, or do you know if they are OK with boost?
I put 35 PSI into a 1985 Jetta Turbo Diesel with just a MLS gasket...
Lol.
Asking which oil is best on any auto forum is really asking to stir up some dookie!
I'll only offer my personal preference, among my personal cars and my fleet of 17 work vehicles. If I get a car at (or around) 100k miles, I'll just fun full synthetic and not look back. If I buy a car...
I have always run Rotella 15w40 on all my old (IDI) diesels. It's fine.
First oil change in my HDJ81, and Rotella was nowhere to be found, so I just use Chevron Delo synth.
Most important thing is a diesel oil, I want to say API CJ-4 is the spec, but I'm going off memory.
Just read the whole thread. Impressive work, to say the least. It really will be better than new when you're done with it.
Are those jacklegs done with the interior yet??
