I’m slightly behind schedule. I wanted this done and driving by June 8 to get to Valley Hybrids swap meet. We’ll see if I can get it done.
Engine mounts took longer than expected, body mounts were easy.
I looked into buying a tank of Argon but it costs $1000 for the tank and gas. Costs $400 to...
Frame progress:
Working on the engine mount/ front body mounts this weekend.
The frame is within a half a degree of itself on either side of the frame rails and level at the front.
Pretty happy with it.
I've blown up a 4.10 HP 8" too. Doesn't take a lot. Again, my fault, not the rocks.
I'm the guy who says they are weak and I've never ran them. I gotta shut up I guess.
To be budget friendly I think Ill go 5.29s in the diffs and leave the high-range alone for now. If highway driving isn't...
Thanks for your vote. I'll start the tally today. So far we have two votes for 5.29s, none for 4.88s. The answer seems obvious...
I do think 5.29s will be a better option for me. Now how about the 10% underdrive high range? Worth $1200 for the kit? I am already taking apart my t-case but those...
Here's the game plan; I'll be building the truck around a 40" tire in lieu of an appropriate size (37"-39") so I know I can clear and fit any tire smaller than a 40" with ease. Last time I SAS'd a previous 4runner of mine, I built the truck around a 37" tire then upgraded to 39s and they didn't...
Factory radiator hangs down low. I plan on building a cross member to brace under the radiator to act as a skid, either round tube or channel.
Time to do some radiator shopping, anyone recommend a shorter radiator? Something that would tuck up a couple inches higher? Or does anyone have...
Haven’t decided on where I’ll mount the new 2x4 frame, ideally I want it flush with one side of the old frame in order to fish plate that side and then triangular gusset the other side that has a gap (isn’t flush with a flat surface)
I’ll most likely span a flat plate over the gusset section...
Axle outers:
Hellfire knuckle, arms drilled out to 3/4”, 105 series rotor and hub, 100 series caliper. Manual hubs with chromoly gear
Hubs sourced from @cruiseroutfit, knuckles from ruff stuff and rotors from cruiserparts.net...
Week 2, April 1-5: Frame cut, new supplies purchased, designing/ building new frame.
I'm using 2x4 3/16" rectangular tubing. Decided on this material versus 2x3 because of the dimensions of the steering box (4 1/2"x2" bolt hole mounting location). I guess I could have used 2x3 but I feel like...
