Key cylinder stuck in Acc position and key won't go in fully

Thanks for this. I tried it but did not help me. My problem is that the key is not getting fully inserted - the last 1/8" is still staying out. So I cannot turn it any way. I finally called a locksmith. He struggled with it for a couple of hours. Finally said the old ignition will need to be...

Key cylinder stuck in Acc position and key won't go in fully

Tried a lot of things today with the key and various flat head screwdrivers and small picks. But could not get the keys inserted fully not get the cylinder to move in any direction. Still stuck in the Acc position. It does depress a little bit - like what you have to do before putting it into...

Key cylinder stuck in Acc position and key won't go in fully

Hi all, I am teaching my daughter driving. Somehow she managed to pull the key out of the LX while it was still in the Acc position (without turning it all the way to lock). Now the key won't go back in fully so I cannot turn it at all. It goes in almost all the way in except maybe the last...

How To: 100 Series Hood Lift Support

Here's the obvious but did you try putting a rust penetrant? Also sometimes an impact wrench has better luck to break stuff loose rather than steady pressure.

How To: 100 Series Hood Lift Support

I just installed the StrongArm 4361 strut from Amazon and they are indeed 1" shorter than the oem ones and the hood does not open as much as with the original. But for $35 it might be worth it.

Allignment issue after steering rack replacement

I seem to remember not disconnecting at the bottom of the steering column (where it goes over the splines) but somewhere midway on the column. I'll check under the hood when I get back home tonight and try and some some pictures.

Allignment issue after steering rack replacement

You do not need to remove the steering rack to disconnect the steering shaft. There is a linkage towards the bottom of the shaft (just above the steering rack itself) that you can disconnect. Then disconnect the TREs, center the steering rack so that the TREs will have approx equal nof of...

Both Catalytic converter bad maybe - need help to figure out?

Folks, I've been getting the P0420 and P0430 "Catalytic System efficiency below threshold" codes for both banks. I've reset it a few times but it comes back after 50-60 miles. I've changed all 4 O2 sensors (my 100 has around 168k miles so thought it would be a good idea in any case). I've also...

Garage cleaning - 100 series parts

@Robert - sorry the springs are taken. Yes - I should get out into the trail more often! Cheers Rohitash @Tuscany Rider - the drive axles are taken. I could try and figure out shipping quotes for the steering rack and dolly but it would be expensive. Not sure if the dolly is worth it unless...

Garage cleaning - 100 series parts

I’ve been cleaning out my garage and have the following to give away – thought I’d put it here before craigslist. Can send pictures on request. Will accept lunch or coffee! Local pickup preferred (Sunnyvale, CA). 100 series stuff (mostly from a 99 land cruiser): - 3rd row seats tan. These are...

Allignment issue after steering rack replacement

I ended up doing a bit of both. Disconnected the steering column at the top coupler, then adjusted the tierods till they had almost the same no of threads showing and eyeballed the toe-in. Reconnected the steering shaft with the steering centered as much as possible. I still needed to take the...

Allignment issue after steering rack replacement

Great - thanks. I understand this part. Now maybe a naive sounding question. Is it possible to do this without disconnecting the steering shaft? Ie back out the tie rods so that there is 50% of the threads used on both sides, use the steering wheel to center the tie rods in the rack, then remove...

Allignment issue after steering rack replacement

So what do we mean by a misaligned steering rack? Could the mounting of the rack itself faulty? From what i can figure out the steering rack pretty much mounts only in one position once both side bushings and mounting bolts are in place. Or am I mistaken here? I do want to correct the root of...
