Stolen FJ40 - Seattle - Tips for the Future

SPD was helpful for a tiny bit, I had an retired crusierhead officer put me in touch with someone and they went hard for a day or two. But everything I have is circumstantial, no actual footage of him in the truck. But they did stop him, get his info and tried to pressure him into giving up...

Stolen FJ40 - Seattle - Tips for the Future

Trust me. I've wrestled with messing all his vehicles. Disabling them for a bit would mean they would get towed/impounded before he could fix them. He parks in too nice of a neighborhoods to have them camped too long. Only issue is he knows where I live and I have no idea what his true mental...

Stolen FJ40 - Seattle - Tips for the Future

Doesn't matter for this. The speaker is just for you to know the battery has been reinstalled. So the beeps "happen" you just cant hear them. Could also reinstall the speaker if you really want. Uses an inductive coil to power them. So literally just pop it back in and the will beep again. If...

Maybe keep a normal one uncased in the Ash tray, so if they get an alert that an AirTag is following them, they'll find that one and not look for a second one.

Ah nice. I get a breakfast sandwich at that bakery right there once a week. I'll stop by for sure. I do have a Cruiserhead connection to the SPD now, so that has helped push things along a bit more, lots of updates, but will keep them on the DL for a bit longer. Feels like we are getting close.

Those wanting to go the AirTag route. I recommend doing this to remove the speaker. Will make it very hard to find. AirTags beep if they haven't seen their paired account in 3 days. So the airtag in the 40 would have been constantly going off. Easy to pinpoint when they do that. Using a case...

Stolen FJ40 - Seattle - Tips for the Future

No major updates on the truck itself. Strong candidate for who stole it. Cameras have him roaming around my property and he was in possession of the FJ40 AirTag (dumped it at a grocery store and was caught on camera). Have a clear photo of his face and clear photos of his bike and license...

Stolen FJ40 - Seattle - Tips for the Future

This looks like a fun project. Found a few YT tutorials with similar ideas. Could easily 3d print a case, or shove it in a gutted fuse box and no one would be wiser.

Yeah the AirTag is an ok idea but has it flaws. Think it can be optimized though. Multiple ones, speakers cutout, apple and android versions. However, I think something like a Pet GPS collar might be the best option. But those are monthly cost. But probably unique enough that someone wouldn't...

Stolen FJ40 - Seattle - Tips for the Future

Pretty sure it drove it off. My neighbor heard it start up around 9pm at night. They had a hard time getting out of the driveway, hit our porch, the gate and car port all on the way out. So maybe a drunk, high, or kid? Air Tag updated for about 2 hours after that and stopped tracking. Checked...

Stolen FJ40 - Seattle - Tips for the Future

Not sure this is allowed here. If not please remove. I posted in the Stolen Forum, but not sure people really see that area. But figured getting as many cruiserheads eyes on the lookout might be best. Plus added some thoughts at the end on what I could have done differently. My Fj40 Was stolen...

    STOLEN  Stolen 1971 Fj40 - Seattle

My Fj40 Was stolen from Seattle, WA (Phinney Ridge Neighborhood) Red Jerry Can on custom swingout, the 3rd brake light, 8274 on front are the key outward features. Rear corners and sill have been fixed and the tire carrier mounting holes patches. So the tub is unique in that way. Lots of...

    SOLD SoCal: early washer bottle

I actually need this. Let me know how to pay and I'll send that over. For those from the future searching: I have modeled and printed up the replacement cap since they are always cracked. So should be able to quickly get a replacement for that in the future. I will also be modeling up the fill...

Builds It was the Prospector's Idea

There are also a few DIY Gx470 platforms that use those mounting points to clip in a sleeping platform. Might be a cool idea to have one fabbed up for extra storage level when you aren't using the seats.

In Tank Fuel Pump on 1982 FJ40

Here is my take on it. https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/1971-fj40-pnw-blue-patina.1221851/post-14414835 Ive also tried both the Denso and Walbro Pumps in the tank. Denso is quieter* but has a higher-pitched squeal that I just picked on way too easily. Walbro is a lower hum but was downed away...

    1971 FJ40 - PNW Blue Patina

Also added a stop to the swing out. This was stopped by the tire hitting the body before and when parked off-angle was a pain to keep open or closed. I'd planned on having the locking holes leading edge chamfered so it would auto-stop when opened. Considered machining an aluminum part with that...

    1971 FJ40 - PNW Blue Patina

Quick update. I had the rear quarters and sill replaced. Tried to keep as much of the original sheet metal as possible and just replace the major rot. Didn't want to get too far down the rabbit hole in bodywork otherwise, I feel like it would quickly spiral. Initial Cutting Panels Welded In...
