FYI, the Tundra customer hit something in the road ripping an oil line off the driver's side of the vehicle. Filed an insurance claim for it. How is this relevant information other than trying to bad-mouth a competing vendor?
Glad you liked everything! You wont need a block heater for the engine to start, but most install them for instant heat in the cold weather. I prefer the Zerostart coolant hose heaters (plugin style as they're much easier to install)...
That's funny. That's literally the only thing we subbed out. Swamped as we are, we had a local exhaust shop weld up that exhaust joint. I think he'll be chipping that engine in the future. Once you chip them, they're ridiculously torquey. I had my guys tear apart the shop looking for that stupid...
It really is a shame that Toyota doesnt build the Fj Cruiser in any markets with the diesel option. Its fantastic! The final drive ratios are unchanged as the transmissions Toyota uses are either the identical transmission or have the same (or extremely close) gear ratios as the a750 or RA60...
I normally tell customers to find a competent VW diesel mechanic. These guys are used to working on modern turbo diesels and have no problems finding their way around a Toyota diesel. I've been driving this thing around all week and it's crazy cool.
Not an Fjcruiser, but here's a video to give an idea of in-cab noise levels as well as engine compartment overview.

Thank you all. To respect his privacy, I cant really go into specifics about the owner but I personally drive an '06 Tacoma D-4D and have registered and driven it on highway for the last few years. My mileage is 27.56 mpg with mixed city/hwy. Specs for the 1KD-FTV can be found online. The last...
The button on the transfer case shifter is to activate the solenoid on the transfer case. This engages 4WD high. Pull the shifter back and this activates 4WD low. The transmission itself is the same R-150F but the transfer case itself is JDM specific. You can disable the speed warning pretty...
The 1kz engines did not have the head cracking issues of the previous "L" series diesel engines. The 1kz's are fantastic engines with excellent powerbands. For those interested in a DIY conversion, unfortunately the 1kzte is not a bolt-on type swap. They require a substantial amount of frame...
All 1kzte's come with centered rear output shaft for the transmission. This engine was used in the Prado, Hilux Surf, and HiAce vans. If they made an offset output shaft, I havent seen it. I can try and measure one today and let you know what the overall length is. -Todd
