Out of no where, Flashing CEL, multiple misfire codes, stability lights and an engine knock

Looks like the dipstick tube for the same year Tundra is different. Much longer tab at the mounting point...

This is my replacement head, casting mark L4, threaded hole in different place.

Out of no where, Flashing CEL, multiple misfire codes, stability lights and an engine knock

Just noticed my original head is slightly different than my replacement head. Original head has a casting number to the rear of cylinder 1 that says L1, replacement head say L4 Original head has a protruding part with a threaded hole at 11'o'clock position from cylinder 1 exhaust port...

That bolt is the top most bolt on the exhaust header the blue circled bolt is the topmost bolt for the exhaust header. Slightly to the rear of that bolt, and slightly above is a threaded hole in the cylinder head. Looks like something is supposed to be there. Problem is with the exhaust header...

Out of no where, Flashing CEL, multiple misfire codes, stability lights and an engine knock

Okay, I've taken the smash shield off to reconsider this. Base on your pics, @2110LC, ir looks like the shop reattached a bracket in the wrong place. This the view from the top of the engine. Is that circled bracket/tab supposed to be there? There is no way for the dipstick tube tab to reach...

Out of no where, Flashing CEL, multiple misfire codes, stability lights and an engine knock

The area around the tube was really clean even before I worked on getting the tube back in, so I think I'm good there, but I am going to get the shop to change oil after the repair is complete, just in case any particles fell in. Does the oil tube route on the inside of the exhaust manifold?

Out of no where, Flashing CEL, multiple misfire codes, stability lights and an engine knock

Because of the shape of the tube, it does not seem possible that that bracket that is welded to the tube can possibly get as close to the engine as it would need to to attach directly to that open threaded hole. Just for clarification, is the oil dipstick tube routed between the engine and the...

Out of no where, Flashing CEL, multiple misfire codes, stability lights and an engine knock

Because they shop will not be open until Tuesday, I pulled into my garage this morning to see what I could do. Good news is that getting the tube back in place was easy once I pulled the left front wheel and a portion of the fender liner. I inserted a small rubber plug into the dipstick tube...

Well, we have another issue. Hopefully minor. The shop did not reattach the bolt that holds the dipstick tube in place. Today, when the dipstick was pulled up it pulled the entire tube up and out. So, two questions, how hard to reattach? It it is a giant PITA, I'll take it back to the shop...

Best the shop that did the work could tell, it was just a coincidence. Proper oil and oil level confirmed, and they checked the oil filter as well. Obviously, no one can say with 100% certainty, but there was no "smoking gun" that indicated the oil change was a factor.

$3300. Used head with less than 100K that was cleaned and tested, 12K/1 year warranty on parts and labor.

Welp, here we go. I picked up the LC late yesterday and drove home (about 40 miles) with no issues other than a small dribble of coolant from the upper radiator hose. They reused my old hose and clamp, and one or the other has lost a little elasticity. Easy fix. Here are some photos of the...

2005 LC - Fender Flares rubber trim source

Interesting. Yeah, the new one on your right matches what I used. But on my LC, it also matched the existing rubber pieces. I wonder if sometime in the last 17 years, my flares had been off before and had that rubber trim updated? As for getting it to stick, I cleaned my flares with a paint...

Out of no where, Flashing CEL, multiple misfire codes, stability lights and an engine knock

I may have used the wrong language a few times in this thread, as it has gone back and forth. My understanding is that the valve seat broke, but I have not seen pics showing exactly that. I’ll ask the shop for photos, and I’ll also ask to retain the broken parts after the repair.

Okay, we have a real update. Shop #2 called, and it is indeed a broken exhaust valve in cylinder #1. This shop is a Toyota specialist with a great reputation (Pro Toys in Knoxville TN). They scoped the cylinder and confirmed the broken valve, that's the bad news. The good news is that the...

I went over to the Shop #2 parking lot with my tools and borescope yesterday, but kudos to the shop for pulling my LC inside. They had told me they were overfull with cars and would likely have to leave mine outside, but I guess they found a way to get it inside. Glad that it's protected, but...

Yeah, I'll try to not make the situation worse! And I am a newbie when it comes to wrenching on the 4.7L, although I d have some years on messing with cars in my background. I've been piston deep into an engine before but it was a 2.0L 4 cylinder with a Weber, not a 4.7L with modern...

I'm going to the dealer parking lot later today to scope the number 1 cylinder once USPS drops off my newly purchased boroscope. What tools do I need? Should be as simple as unplugging and removing the coil, then the spark plug, right? Anything else? a 10mm socket to remove engine cover and...
