The only thing I did was to remove the bolt that held it on: maybe the arm that it attaches to moved a bit when I was doing that. Hard to tell because you’re doing it blind when it’s on the truck
Nearly at the finish line here and trying to get the shift linkage sorted. The issue is that the length is not matching up to both mounting points, it looks like you can slightly adjust its length by moving the bolt back (per picture) and turning the black end until the right length is reached...
I think you are right
i think you are right, god awful place to put that hook though. The bolt that holds the other end of the link on looks like a 10 or 12 per this picture so I’m gonna try to sneak a wrench in there and take it off to avoid lowering the whole case again.
Finally getting it back in. Quick question on the install. Is this shift linkage supposed to sit up under the hook or clear it? I know the crossmember will move things up but the angle still looks wrong to me.
Going part-time so I took this out. Never given me any issues, 238,000 miles on the truck. Not sure if original but it works. $150 plus the ride if you’re not local.
For those wondering you leave the snap ring in and just hammer the shaft out. You can leave the dust cover and ball bearing too as long as you’re just replacing the seals.
That’s it, we’re having a vote :worms:
In any case I’m far less interested in the VC at this point than I am in getting the shaft out of this front housing!
Got the sleeve pulled out of the front housing. The big snap ring takes more muscle than I wanna give it with the pliers. Is that gap meant to allow you to remove it with a screwgie? Soundguy’s write up mentions hammering the shaft through but I’d guess the ring needs to come out first?
Man I’m going to have to hold a vote on the VC issue. I’ve got till Friday (hopefully) to make up my mind. I will post trail and highway results here as soon am I get it back in.
