I received one of the black-coated hoses this weekend. I can vouch for the quality. It's a solid product, and with the hose being so close to exhaust - the extra protection sounds good to me.
Thank you for the replies. I'll source the dino oil and probably run it like Skreddy says - that seems to mirror some of what I've been able to find on the inter-webs.
Moving along in an engine refresh for my FJ40. Original cam and lifters. 5/6 original pistons. One piston replaced due to damage by rings. All new piston rings. Cylinder head disassembled, cleaned and reassembled. Will do initial valve adjustment and set initial timing per FSM. Cylinders...
Get the kit and do it yourself, it's not too bad. Was one of the first things I did when I first got my Cruiser.
Be methodical about where parts came from - lay things out if you need to. Carb cleaner spray and a gallon can of carb dip is about all you need.
Be careful with springs and balls...
Thank you! This looks like a winner. I'm not able to mock up the installation yet, but getting there soon. I have more confidence that it can be done now.
Any chance you have photos of the pump on the smog pump bracket. Was it only a matter of stacking some washers for alignment, or is there some fabwork involved? I'm refreshing the 2F in my 78 and desmogging at this time. I want to move the minitruck pump I have from my homemade bracket to the...
What is the process? Does it make the original material harden up so it can be chipped off? I'd like to clean mine up too - over time it has just clumped up in places from normal wear.
I've got two on my 12/78 as well. I agree with Dizzy - one for the computer and emissions stuff. Both mine appear to be almost identical. Maybe only slight differences as if one was replaced some time ago. Maybe the one you have with the nipple is badly corroded or broken?
Mine has Velcro and that's how the soft top attaches. No snaps or mechanical fasteners of any kind.
But that Velcro is still attached to the upper, hinged, part of the trailer - not the tub. I can open up the tub with the soft top on and there is no latch or catch of any kind. Are you saying...
Me again! I've got another question about using the soft top.
When traveling with the soft top, what keeps the lid from opening up on the road? At freeway speeds, I don't trust it without a latch of some kind.
I've been throwing a cargo strap around the whole thing for piece of mind...
I hadn't thought of the flex - I'm glad you mentioned that. I agree too solid of a mount could tear up that fiberglass. I do have a soft cover. Could use the hard cover only when stored at home.
All good ideas, if not ambitious for my needs...
I'll most likely use some sort of draw latch from McMaster Carr. The tricky part, as I see it, is modifying the latch to bridge the offset between the base and the lid - probably about two inches there.
Thanks for the input!
On the off chance that anyone has parts for these...
My particular trailer was put together with parts purchased from Venturcraft as they closed. Mine doesn't have the factory latches - it currently has one pair of generic rubber hood latches, which I dislike.
Does anybody have a set of...
If I recall, there was a screw on the metal reflector inside. Either that, or I installed a screw or soldered the wire.
This was over a decade ago for me, my memory may be flawed!
