I had a 15 pro, inferno, access cab, 6 speed. It was fine, standard tacoma. If I were you I'd buy an offroad and upgrade the suspension. When it came time to replace the bilsteins I swapped on gen 3 fox setup instead. Folks take them off 3rd gens with low miles all the time, I bought a set with...
My only thoughts are:
1. Terminals/connections may not be perfectly snug. I had a loose terminal that caused a somewhat similar circumstance.
2. Faulty ACR. A small percentage are likely imperfect, and I imagine Blue Sea could help troubleshoot or replace the unit.
As you say, the ACR is...
Thanks, good to know.
I'll have to take measurements, and I'll likely look for a second yellowtop and wire the 2 aux batteries in parallel. That way I don't have an "obsolete" battery just sitting there, and it saves money on an isolator.
I appreciate your input on the temps. I was only...
Thanks, good point - not just the highs but the lows too, as I camp a lot below freezing.
Perhaps a 100ah+ agm under the hood passenger side may be safest best. I haven't taken measurements to see what will fit.
About 10k miles in now. Gas mileage penalty is around 1 mpg from the 265 duratracs e-load before, after mileage correction. I rotate every 5k, including my spare in that mix. Wear seems pretty minimal, although that's just from my eye. I'll be surprised if I don't get 50-60k.
Just spent ~10...
Just a quick update
Having 200W is nice, although a bit overkill. The batteries are always full as long as the sun is up. If I turn on a heavy draw like the compressor it will jump up to +10 amps, but is mostly on trickle, or around 5 amps if the fridge is running.
For anyone with a dual zone...
If it's a family outing we use the firepan from the rafting gearbox. Good for wildfire country. Then you just make a bonfire in it after cooking.

At work I use an old msr whisperlite. Bulletproof - the darn thing will probably...
I've used a dual probe Bluetooth thermometer by ThermoPro before, my wife bought it to use for the smoker, although the tiny battery doesn't last more than 4 hours when unplugged. It has a min/max alarm you can set. Personally, I don't sweat it, just wanted to test display accuracy.
Getting...
Easy math, averaging 1ah.
I just looked at the pic of the charger - says it peaks at 2.7amps. It would take 18.5hrs to top off those 50ah. Simultaneously the fridge is consuming 1ah, so really charge is 1.7ah, which is 26.7hrs.
Maybe I'm misreading the charger decal, just wanted to mention...
If you're going to spend more time on the dirt in the future then spend the money. If this is a one-and-done outing then take your time and you'll be fine, you aren't far from civilization. Tires are the most important upgrade we do to our vehicles, but if you only see dirt once a year then...
I am doubtful that a 100ah non-lithium battery will last 3-4 days, outside of winter. On warm nights (lows around 60) my 55ah agm will drop from 13.0 at sunset to 12.5 by morning. That's 1/2 of my "usable" capacity, or 1/4 of yours in a 12 hour period.
I know you don't have a designated expo...
I'm a big fan of Gaia, an app. I think it's $20 for a basic lifetime subscription, which gets you their topos, usgs topo, several satellite imagery maps, and more. If you pay an annual fee they have a lot more layers, worldwide. It's easy to build gpx/kml/kmz files and then upload them, say if...
Personally I'd recommend adding 100W of solar into your setup. If your vehicle is stationary for many days this can help dramatically, especially in a sunny environment. Even in rain and clouds you will still get a couple amps. When in the desert, even if it is over 90 and the fridge is running...
If you don't find anyone, a dealership in Bountiful has a used LX570 on their lot. Also you can check with car rentals - I've found living with a vehicle for a day helps me decide if I'd enjoy living with it.
I decided to add a 2nd 100W panel. My controller is good for 20A so no worries. Wired in parallel. Been oppressively cloudy lately (plus indirect sun this time of year) so no good test to see max performance, but 60-80W through fog and clouds seems pretty solid. Upgraded the cross bars as well...
I had a set installed recently, and did about 1k miles off-pavement in the Wasatch Mtns of N UT. Very good in untracked snow (8" was the most I saw) as well as mud, rocks, etc. Areas where snow was packed and refroze to ice they did well too, better than I expected. True to size diameter-wise...
First off, I hope your son is alright.
Not sure on salvage value. My buddy just sold his clean title 05 access cab off-road 6 speed with 300k+ miles for $5k. It was in West Texas, and sold super fast, so he could have gotten a bit more.
Not sure the specs and mileage on your truck, but I...
Can't speak to the 3.5l, but I'd say no difference on the 4.0l. I have one, but switched back to paper filters. I liked that I could clean it between oil change intervals if it got excessively dirty, but I never noticed any power/mpg benefit, and I check my gas mileage on every tank. Paper...
Something that happened on this last field stint was excessive dust build-up on the coils inside my fridge. After about 1000 dusty miles in WY I noticed the freezer was running continuously. Initially I blamed the high temps, but out of curiosity I opened the panel and saw the components covered...
