Quick question before replacing UCA & LCA on both sides

So I posted a while back about damaging my RH side control arms, and taking the plunge with the high mileage to do both sides at the side time. Wanted to ask a quick question. Will I need to redo the torsion bar adjustments and AHC fluid pressures as well?

Apparently I need to replace my RH control arms

So my truck fell off the jack (see the “what did you do” thread for details) last Friday, and this Wednesday it started squealing and squeaking really bad. Any time the passenger side flexes or compresses you can hear it. There’s a separate noise, like a scrape, every time you turn the steering...

Weight handling of the roof WITHOUT THE RACK

I saw this old thread but didn’t want to revive it: does anyone know how much weight a 100 series roof can handle ? - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/does-anyone-know-how-much-weight-a-100-series-roof-can-handle.978028/ Anyway, I don’t haul gear on my roof, like ever. Any my rack was all nasty...

Ideas to make INTERNAL hammock work?

So I want to camp inside my LX, but the platform/air mattress isn’t going to work for a couple reasons: Not enough room for ventilation. I’m not claustrophobic at all, but the air mattress takes up so much space with my wife and I on it that the air won’t get through the windows without strong...

AC system not holding pressure… where to start?

2005 LX470 and the air worked fine until about two weeks ago, when it started running weak. Was meaning to get to looking at it, but one of the fine joys of being disabled is finding that sweet convergence of feeling well enough to do the work, having time to do it, and weather to cooperate...

Had to disable the child lock for rear hatch

I cannot open the rear hatch from the inside. It almost always opens fine from the outside handle. But it never works from inside. The lock mechanism and child lock mechanism work as intended. But the handle would not engage it turns out that the child lock lever was loose and slipping just...

Might be the best 40 minutes I’ve invested yet (Headlight Restoration)

I’ve used the Novus branded kit before to ok, but not great, results. My son was in a minor accident in the Passat TDI, and I decided to buff out the doors that were scratched instead of paying the $1,000 deductible and letting an auto body fix it. This meant getting the dual-action polisher and...

[OOPS] So I’m finally replacing both downstream O2 sensors and this happens

The post was tight but didn’t feel cross threaded. Then it got just a little tighter and then snapped right off. Is there a simple fix? Or am I screwed? And also, my new sensor came with a spacer that has seals on both sides, but there weren’t any on the old sensors. Do I use them or toss them?

is this a third member leak???

So I was replacing the other upstream oxygen sensor today and noticed fresh oil collecting where I had wiped off a bunch of grime when replacing the driver’s side upstream O2 sensor a couple weeks ago. I looked all over to try to find the source but somehow I can’t spot it. What am I missing...

    Noob O2 Sensor Question

My tech stream shows bank 1 sesnor 1 code. I want to replace the sensor, but have a question on the part. The Lexus dealer wants $220, and Advanced Auto has two different Denso parts that both say they are for the upstream sensor. The dealer is also further away, by about 20 minutes, so I don’t...

    2005 LX470 Build Thread

Well, I figure it’s time to start an actual build thread. It’s going to be slow, as I’ll only have so much a month to throw at this old girl the family has now dubbed “Lexi”. So far all I’ve done is: Replaced the bald tires it came with after buying some gently used 275/65 Toyo AT/II all...

How bad is this??? (‘05 lx470 w/ 312k miles, drain & fill transfer case)

Just bought this Monday (6 days ago). One thing previous owner said he didn’t get to was to drain & fill the transfer case & differentials. I started with the transfer case because, as I understand it, it has the shortest oil change frequency. Well, the drain plug hada bunch of sludge that was...

Random thoughts from a 100-series noob

So two days in and I’m loving the LX470, but that’s probably also some confirmation bias after spending $11k on it. Anyway, going to set it up for moderate overlanding and here are some random thoughts about doing it as a budget build. Shooting this out asking to get the Will Smith treatment if...

Downgrading from 18” to 16” rims?

This might be a total noob question, but I searched and couldn’t find it in the forums. I’ll likely be buying a 2005 LX470, and it has bald tires. I wouldn’t want to drive them over 45 mph. So the very first order of business will be to get tires. BUT, this is going to be an...

    Buying my first Landcruiser!

So I had a 4Runner. Loved it until my son wrecked it. Went a year without a vehicle because I only had liability on it, it now buying a 1988 FJ62. If all goes well I should pick it up Monday or Tuesday. Looking forward to learning a lot from y’all. I was so used to the idiosyncrasies of the 3rd...

Wanted  Single 16” factory wheel 3rd gen 4Runner

I need a 5th factory wheel before I get new tires in a bigger size. Plan is to have a working spare that I can rotate in every 5,000 miles to keep the wear even between all 5 tires instead of the hangar queen of a different make/tread that it has now. Please ignore the ugly black paint. It was...

So let’s say a winch isn’t in my budget right now...

What manual come-along would you recommend for someone just starting out on his build? I live 5 minutes from Harbor Freight and 15 minutes from a Northern Tool store if they carry something you think might be worth buying, and I’d save on shipping.

Need help getting the sunroof to fully close

So the sunroof motor doesn’t work and the window is slight low in the rear. I took off the clerk to the controls, and the motor doesn’t seem to have a manual crank. How do I fix it? Left side of the picture is the front side of the sunroof.

New to the forum from St Louis Metro East

Hello all! So while I technically live in Illinois, I’m literally 15 miles to the Gateway Arch in St Louis. And since I am building my 4Runner for trail running, and not muddling, there’s very few places in IL, and none of them except Hillbillie Offroad is closer than the ones in Eastern MO.
