IMO, you’re in to deep $ wise on this truck. The rear quarter damage and engine failure really puts this one in the part’s truck category. But certainly could be fixed. I counted up about $5k-$6k in parts if I parted it out. No offense intended
If you want to keep the trans, t-case, bumpers...
A straight and rust free body will up the value more than anything else. Next would be condition of the interior. Need pics though, condition is everything
I will make you an offer if you send good pics.
Probably easier to pull valve cover and lift up rocker assembly. Not a difficult task. So you can remove pushrods and roll them on a flat surface to check straightness.
Jason, hate to hear about your health issues. Take it easy
I guess I waited too long to order sliders! Damn
What wall thickness are you using on the DOM, 1/8, or 3/16?
LOL, that’s basically what I did after checking stuff today. I just unplugged the bulb and harness from the brake light. I can still see light from behind the cluster, but it’s a lot less annoying
Ordered a NOS voltage regulator from vintageteq, maybe that will fix it.
Send me a good one Matt!
I have doubts about it working, but won’t hurt to have a spare
Well after removing gauges, the 3 ground wiring buses looked brand new, no corrosion at all. The wiring system in general is in pristine condition, truck has always been in garage when not in use.
ill check out the voltage regulator next
I started rebuilding everything ( master cylinder, slave cylinder, brakes, clutch etc…) a few years back, on everything I own Chevy, ford, Toyota, Case, cat, etc. takes a little bit more time but everything fits and it saves a few $$.
Saves the bs the OP is going through, been there
At first I thought I might have a vacuum issue, but no sensor I can see on engine vacuum exists. And booster works great
Fluid level sensor on master cylinder cap gone bad?
Since 1993 my fj60 the brake light (right under the tach) has been on. It was barely visible in daylight for 10 plus years, then just kept getting increasingly brighter. Now it is about 3/4 of a full 12v brightness. How I judged that is when I pull up the parking brake it still gets a little bit...
Are you going to put down any insulation/ heat material on the floor in preparation for the carpet?
let us know how it goes, I’m about to tackle mine, had the carpet for awhile now
My neighbors dogs scratched it up bad but I think I can sand it out.
Sure has been nice and quiet since their house burned down!
But, I wasn’t the cause. Not that I didn’t contemplate some lower levels of payback!
If you can rent or borrow a hot water pressure washer that is the best way to clean it up, stick the nozzle in every single orifice you can see and if you’re not soaking wet when you’re done, you didn’t do it right. unless you’re going to take it apart then sodium hydroxide dipped like was...
You would be surprised at how much warp in a head that can be overcome with the compression of the head gasket.
You could buy a .001” indicator and rig up a way to check your flatness, but that money would be better spent on new valves and guides IMO
