    Transmission/Shifter problem

Put the 07 FJ (20500 mi.) auto. trans. into Reverse this morning and...nothing happened! Ran the shifter thru all the gears a few times and then (huge clunk) engaged in Reverse. No problems since. Any ideas or similar issues out there? Thanks in advance.

How many miles do you have on your FJC

    6293 miles (only 344,560 fewer than my FJ60). 23.49mpg on 91 octane.

FJs 40 thru 100 and FJC

a thoughtful comparison of the FJ series and the FJC? I own an '86 FJ60 (bought new) with 348k miles and an FJC with 1k miles. My work schedule on the railroad allows me 90 - 110 days annually on the trail, from pleasant drives on the gravel on Forest Service routes to medium/difficult trails...

Why do you love your 60?

Because: ...it's taken me to the highest mountain passes in Colorado, to Alaska, and throughout Mexico ...of the dozens of nights I've spent sleeping in the back when the weather was too rough for just a sleeping bag on the ground ...of 20 years of family adventures and memories ...I bought...

    87 vs 89 octaine

Here on the Front Range, our Regular is 85, Mid-Grade 87, and Premium 89. I don't know the specifics, but the lower octane has to do with the blend of gasolines used here which supposedly reduce emissions. It seems to have helped as we no longer have nearly the problem with the infamous "brown...

    87 vs 89 octaine

My 86 FJ60 w/336+k miles runs fine on the 85 octane regular we have here. Also runs well on Pemex Magna grade which, as I recall, is 86 octane. Figured I've saved nearly $3000 over 19 years by using regular.

    FJ60 with highest miles?

86 FJ60 (bought new) - 336,808 on odometer but probably more like 355k actual given taller than stock tires - no major engine work.

    FJ55 heater reference and question

Among other silly, time- and money-consuming hobbies (including an '86 FJ60 w/335k miles), I collect old 4x4 magazines. I recently came upon the June '73 issue of "Four Wheeler" and in addition to the nostalgic ads for Formula Desert Dog tires, Husky Heavy-Duty Selectro Hubs, and Berens...

    big gas tank

42 gal (probably closer to 40) from SOR; a necessity for our trips thru the Chihuahua backcountry. Spare mounted inside, of course. Most recent fillup --- $90.13.

    Sleeping in back?

Have spent literally dozens of nights in the back of mine over the years high, dry and warm. Unless it's rainy or snowing, tailgate down as privacy is usually not an issue where I end up.

    Daily Drivers chime in

86 FJ60...38 mile round trip to downtown Denver mostly 55-60 mph freeway 2 days a week (any more would cut too much into mountain time)...14.55 mpg last time I measured commuting-only.

How many miles are on yours?

332,494...86 FJ60, bought new. Orig. engine, rebuilt transmission, transfer case (lots of 4-wheeling, in fact, made it to 11700' yesterday before the drifts were still too deep).

    gas mileage for a 60/62??

I have a "goal" of 13 (commuting) for my 86 FJ60 with 32" tires and 331k miles; depending on traffic and weather it varies between 11.5 and 13.5. Highway mileage varies a lot, too. I'm satsified with 13 on the grades of I70 and US285 west of Denver (running as fast as necessary/possible to...

    Storage suggestions/precautions?

My 86 FJ60 will be stored in an unheated garage in Colorado for all of Feb. and Mar. as I have to be in Delaware training for a new job. Any precautions I should take before storing and/or before starting it after 2 (cold) months? Thanks in advance. BTW, my Cruiser (which I bought new) rolled...

    Stalling out going up.

I had precisely the same problem with my 86 FJ60 last summer and it always happened at the worst possible time, e.g., on a tight, steep switchback at 12900' on the Argentine Pass road with 800 vertical feet of nothing but clean Colorado air immediately behind. Exceptional independent Toyota...

fj60 stalls - fuel or electrical or ?

My 86 fj60 with 310k miles (I bought new and it's been very carefully maintained) sometimes stalls on steep, bumpy 4wd grades and sometimes on sharp turns. Rpms just drop to nothing. Sometimes starts right away, sometimes not. When it does start, sometimes idles rough for awhile, somtimes...
