I had the same issue of no start even with a new NSS. Bypassed with external solenoid and start switch for a year.
I troubleshoot the problem last fall and the root cause was one of the wires from the NSS (black/red) was shorted to another wire in the main harness by the EGR pipe in the engine...
Not too familiar with shipping but could work something out.
I have compression numbers written down somewhere but if I recall correctly they were all around 150.
272K mikes when pulled a couple years ago. It was running great. Nothing wrong with it other than the typical rear main seal oil leak that I know of. I have a video of it running on my FZJ80 before pulling the engine for anyone interested. Need to make some room so this is for sale. $800.
Not sure if this is related to your cruise control issue. I’ve been troubleshooting random no start issues, check engine P1780 code and no cruise control for awhile.
After trying 3 different starters, NSS module and new ground and power wires without success, I ended up bypassing the ignition...
Finally got around to swapping my front and rear axles to lockers.
I have the front differential and the complete rear non-locking axles available. $400 for the rear axle and the front diff goes with it.
Thanks for the link. I read it 3x and still not convinced which direction I’m going to take yet but I’m partial to buying a new one since it may be the easiest forward path.
This FJ40 project is a lot more work and time than I anticipated. May have to hire out to finish the remaining work...
I’m not sure which box I have. I’m finishing the job that the PO started. I get 3 and a half turns lock to lock.
Here’s a picture of the installed box. Anyone know of which seal kit to use?
Drove it around the neighborhood and everything felt nice and tight. When I pulled it in the garage and kept it idling to check for leaks and any other issues, everything looked nice and tight but I have a leak that is coming from the front of the gear box input shaft area. 👎
The leak seems...
Just wanted to give an update. Thanks again for everyone’s input it really provided me with ideas and options.
I had time last weekend and Monday to visit the local pick n pull junkyard. I ended up getting brackets from different vehicles and a different pump. Took it home and used the one...
Excellent! Good to know I can still drive it which buys me time to search for a bracket solution or get a new mount put on.
I’ll try to take another picture of the engine bay tomorrow.
I bought a welder and learned to weld with this project. My welding skills is still lacking and don’t trust myself especially on a motor mount. If I have to put it on a trailer to take to a fabricator, will I be okay to drive if onto a trailer even though I don’t have the pump connected?
I’m learning. 🙂
Fortunately I’ve been able to piece it together that the shaft doesn’t rub on the mount. Thanks to the many ideas and knowledge I’ve gained by reading all the posts regarding power steering conversion in the forum. 👍🏼
Not exactly what I want to hear. Haha
I’ve bought this ‘65 FJ40 because the person gave up on restoring but it came with both front and rear elockers from an 80-series which I justified the purchase so I can install on my FZJ80.
With that said, I haven’t been able to work on my 80 much...
