Im changing out the seals that go on the companion flange output shafts on my FJ60 transfer case. The front output had some sealant on the splined shaft where it fits into the companion flange. Is there supposed to be some sealant here to prevent transfer case oil migrating out through the...
Just an update for anyone who might be trying to get wiper delay working on a FJ60. The relay up under the dash on my 1985 FJ60, i took it apart and the contacts on the relay on a little circuit board inside had welded together. I was able to find a little relay on Ebay that i soldered into...
I just unplugged mine at the firewall and adapted a garden hose to flush it in reverse, then both ways. I did a cylinder head job on it a while back and I think there was some trash that got into the cooling passage and it lodged in the heater. Heat works great now. I had bypassed my rear...
I wanted to present this bit of info to the community as I think I discovered something that I have not seen mentioned and its something that alot of FJ60 owners might be struggling with. I have been unhappy with the slow speed of the wipers in my 1985 FJ60 for quite a while. After greasing all...
Im trying to diagnose poor and or no wiper performance on my 1985 FJ60. I have searched high and low to figure out what this connector is for that goes between the wiper motor and the vehicle harness. 2 of the wires are potted into a gizmo. Nothing i can find in the FSM about this. Anybody know...
I am considering putting some FJ cruiser wheels on my 1985 FJ60 with a four-speed transmission. The tires on these wheels are 265/70-17. Im wondering how the truck will drive with these wheels and if it might be a halfway decent substitute for a 5 speed gearbox, allowing me to get up to modern...
Matt-
Ive done clutches on sports cars but not on a FJ60. I guess in a cruiser, you would drop the gearbox/ transfer case, then remove bell housing to get at the clutch? Im trying to surmise if my clutch has been replaced or not by the fact that I have these 2 missing bolts.
Thanks guys, I have ordered the proper bolts and will be getting this done soon. I wanted to ask anyone who might know... im wondering what scenario would allow these bolts to not be in place. If I was dropping the tranny to install a new clutch disk, I would remove the bell housing to motor...
I was crawling up until my cruiser today and it looks like im missing 2 of the bolts that hold the gearbox to the bellhousing on my FJ60. It’s been like that for years but I suppose that I need bolts here. Would anyone have a couple of these bolts I could buy ?
I am in the final stages of re assembly on replacing the harmonic balancer in my 1985 FJ60. I have searched the boards but still can’t decide if I should locktite the big nut that holds the balancer on, and how much torque. I used a jack handle pipe on the wrench to get it off. I don’t have a...
Does anyone know if oil runs through the oil cooler before or after the oil filter? My oil cooler was rusty so I took it off to sandblast, and despite my best efforts, I got some sand inside it. I have since flushed it out over and over with gasoline and im 98% sure that I got all the sand out...
Well another question while I’ve got anybody’s attention… Any tips for installing the oil pan gasket? I thought about gluing the gasket down, and letting it cure, before install so that it doesn’t move around and I can line up the bolts. The curved in pieces seem tricky to get in place right.
