Mike Restores an FJ40 on YouTube

A few months ago, I created a YouTube channel to document the restoration of a 1971 FJ40. In a video I just posted to the channel, you'll meet my friend Andy and the first FJ40 I restored about 15 years ago. We take them both for a short trail ride on his property in the mountains. During...

Would a RWD steering box work for a "minitruck" power steering conversion?

Thanks for the info. Really appreciate it.

Would a RWD steering box work for a "minitruck" power steering conversion?

I've never done this, so you've got me wondering. The minitruck gearbox goes in same place as the old gearbox. I guess I'd assumed the new gearbox would give me a suitable mount point for the column shift rod. Is that not true?

Would a RWD steering box work for a "minitruck" power steering conversion?

I have a saved search going on eBay. There's a big world out there. Maybe something will turn up. I used to have a '73 Scout II. If I can't make the minitruck conversion work, a Scout PS conversion is my second choice.

Would a RWD steering box work for a "minitruck" power steering conversion?

I like the electric option, but this fj40 has a column shift that would interfere with the electric assist box. Only way to fix that I can think of would be a floor shifter conversion. Also, electric ps takes something like 200 watts. The fj40 only has a 40 amp alternator that would need to be...

Would a RWD steering box work for a "minitruck" power steering conversion?

I'd like to do the "minitruck" conversion to my '71 FJ40, but the cheapest PS gear box I can find is around $350 + core. Core charges are in excess of $300 which tells me they're getting scarce. I've called every salvage yard in the area and come up empty. The RWD version of this gear box is...

The brake booster looks original to me. As for the firewall support, I don't think so. Here's a picture

    Mike Restores an FJ40 YouTube

For the past few months I've been restoring a '71 FJ40, which I've been documenting on YouTube. There are 19 videos so far. I'm a first-time YouTuber, so I'd appreciate constructive feedback. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCDDaUMiMDo_iTz84uoPNcKA/

    What distributor is this?

Answering my own post because I found the part number tag hiding in the back. With that I was able to find more information about this distributor. Maybe somebody else will have this same issue, search the Internet and find the information below useful. This is a Mallory distributor, PN...

    What distributor is this?

Here are a few pictures of the distributor currently in my 1971 FJ40. What the heck is this? It's clearly not the original Toyota distributor. I noticed a little M logo on the rotor and points. Could this be an old Mallory distributor for a Chevy 235?

Front Seats: Fix or Go Original?

Thanks. If they're in decent shape they should bring a good price.

Front Seats: Fix or Go Original?

UPDATE: After deciding you guys were right, I did some online shopping, made some calls and came up with a decent set of original seat from Classic Cruisers here in Colorado. They were not cheap, but I'm happy with how things turned out. Here's a video of the result...

Front Seats: Fix or Go Original?

First-time poster here. I'm working on a '71 FJ40 where a previous owner removed the factory bench seats and installed a pair of bucket seats (maybe from an '80s American car). The driver's seat was screwed into the lid of the tool box which I don't think is safe. No way this seat stays put in...
