a friend of mine recently acquired a 1982 pickup, and is planning on rebuilding the engine. the problem is, the truck has had an engine swap sometime in the past (to a 22r, apparently) i've never seen the truck or engine so i can't be sure... but we need to find the production date of the motor...
after a fresh carb rebuild, what's the first action you should take towards getting it tuned? just rebuilt my '75 carb, installed it on my '73 F, need to get it purring again.
it runs (badly) for about 10 seconds and then sputters and dies.

i think my rear main seal is going/gone... it's leaking in between the motor and trans, dripping off the bellhousing. it is smoking like crazy though, not through the exhaust but out from under my truck. is this a common symptom or do i have bigger problems?
i've heard it's easier to replace...

for the last couple days i've noticed that my ammeter is pretty erratic... it will be normal one minute, then it'll drop down to a negative, then about a minute later it'll read a big positive and immediately go back to normal.

ok here are the pictures of before and after wheeling. if you look at the back end of my truck, i've lost a good 2 inches of height! the load inside the truck is the exact same... did i just flatten out my springs a little? you can tell the difference because of the angle of the shackles...
