    I think it will be easier to try to find a gear reduction to go between the motor and the winch than try to package the planetary out of Warn into something I can use.

    So, electric motor isn't going. No idea what to try next as the consensus was that hydraulic won't work either - speed is wrong and power steering pump doesn't flow enough. I guess I have to start researching that in more detail.

    Ya, not remotely possible in winter to cross Colorado as I'm not aware of any route close to the the continental divide that's less that 10,000'. And, Wyoming and Montana, if they are possible, could be miserable depending on weather, not just snow, but -20 and blowing 50 mph.

    @texcwa - Yes, it certainly would. This pretty much assumes a modern wiring harness and no ammeter. Since this would only be needed with a V8, a much more capable alternator as well.
