As my close buddies know, I can't leave well enough alone. So I've continued to mess with my pump settings, seeking the holy grail of parameters that allow me to climb a hill with reasonable EGT's, start with no smoke, all the while not rattling like a dump-truck, yet still functioning at higher...
Do you have a High altitude compensator on the top of the pump? I live at 1100m and frequent the (even higher) mountains. My early 1hz didn't have an HAC so I retrofitted one from a later 1hz. It didn't make a huge difference, but it helped a bit. I get no smoke at all unless I overwhelm how...
Lots of good points made here, and mine will echo most. C-tek charger has been a great way to get max life out of batteries for me. I recently retired a 12 year old Optima Yellow top, which had been used in many different trucks, but was afforded a long life by frequent conjugal visits with the...
Beauty Prado! That's some low low k's! If the EGR was intact since it was new, you might consider checking the intake for sludge next time you need to remove stuff... My KZJ90 had 92k kms when I got it, and was very clean, but the intake was extremely covered in EGR tar... Some quality time with...
I asked the same thing when I was trying to get mine to come down. Mine had a rubberized sheet thingy where it made contact. But yeah... It didn't wanna leave it's home.
My brother has been making cutting boards for a few years from exotic wood and resin. Real fancy stuff. We wondered if the same could be accomplished to replace the cutting board in a Frontrunner drop down table.
Here is the result:
I still need to put in some retaining bolts so it doesn't...
Here is the section of my ramblings where I drop mine... There might be something of help?

I did this around a year ago and found that the ff rubber tube was NOLA. I bought a long piece of fuel appropriate hose on Amazon of the right diameter and strategically cut it to echo the OEM bends. It has worked fine since!
If you do drop the tank to do the pickup (that's where mine was...
Yep! I did this test on mine in an attempt to eliminate the smoke. At 33 years old she sent 22v to the glow plugs until the relay clicked out (this can take up to about 8 secs depending on temp) and then 12v for quite a awhile after.
I also did the test with the glow out of the head.. 8...
Some electrical work done today. Finally got my solar controller set up: a Renogy Rover MPPT feeding battery #3, with a remote panel mounted at the back door so I don't have to open the side cupboard to see all the fun in the sun (also, it was a freebie promo with the main controller. LOL).
I...
Just for point of reference, with strong battery(s) and a properly functioning glow system, this engine can start in the minus teens (celsius) with virtually no smoke, even with lots of miles on it...
How long are you letting the plugs glow on first start? How did you check them? Is the smoke immediate or does it start after about 5ish seconds? Is your ACSD still in place or no?
A buddy of mine bought a new Defender today. I maybe should've washed mine?
He got the inline 6 hybrid assisted turbo engine, which has a little more oomph than my n/a inline 6. I'm sure it's because of the altitude. It also has a few more creature comforts than mine does. Despite that fact...
The coq is for sure a big obstacle. My 1hz did it last year in both directions. Patience was needed...
You may find your EGT's are higher than you expect when you put the gauge in. Keeping the revs up will bring them down in a hurry and may help your overall water temp too... sounds like...
