Got out with the wife for some quick snow camping outside Bishop. Was cold but a great time.
The truck picked up a bit of a grinding sound when the wheel is turned right and under power though...need to dig into that. :hmm:
I had it once before but it turned out to be rocks stuck between the...
Yeah, it was in Monache. And the river crossing was tough, got our Land Rover stuck out there (not the depth but the mud) but there was another spot you could cross over.
I picked these up two years ago from @Deathvalleypaul hoping to avoid rebuilding seat motors every 6 months, but alas my gf prefers the look of our recovered power seats.
They’ve been in my garage, they are kinda dirty but mechanically fine. Note you’ll need to transfer over the seat belt...
I think you see all the options out there. I did the tcase hi/lo gears only, but my 80 was already locked. I think if you’re needing to get into the diffs anyway, just regear the diffs. You can always go back and do the transfer case another day for the low range.
FWIW I found traction was not...
Hey there. It was a bit of big project for me, but I'm happy to have done it, and by being reasonably careful with it I had a lot of fun learning how transfer cases work. I think if you're comfortable rebuilding the front axles you can probably tackle this. Getting the case out and back in is...
I've had mine about 16 months and 20K miles, there is a noise, if this was my DD/commuter I would probably be more religious about keeping it all silent, but as it is it doesn't bother me. My kids still fall asleep in the backseat on the highway and the radio is pleasantly audible over it...
Ah, ok thanks. That never even occurred to me. It did look like someone had done the knuckles within the past few years—lots of healthy grease in there but unfortunately the felt seal had gone so the backside was gross.
Helping a coworker baseline a new to him 80. We are doing front knuckle rebuild first. Got into it yesterday and noticed some wear patterns on the spindle. Is this normal/ok or should we replace it?
What could have caused? I was thinking maybe loose wheel bearings?
Hey, I think @ucmikej is going to stop by this evening or tomorrow and snag it, if he doesn't show up I can find an Amazon box to stuff it in and estimate the shipping.
Up for grabs, otherwise I'm chucking the seats out Monday. If anyone wants them, come get them this weekend, free for the taking. Also have a 80-series car cover from the PO I don't use you can have. Cheers!
(if not for the fire ban, we'd be in the woods this weekend...instead it's a house...
I think I killed the motors redoing the Gamiviti gears this last time, so looking for a pair (or take one if available) to give it one more shot before I chuck them and get something else. I'd cut my losses now but I recovered them and added heaters last year, and they are actually comfortable...
The nut on the OME steering stabilizer worked its way loose on our last offroad trip. I have M12 x 1.5mm and M12 x 1.75mm nuts, yet neither seems to thread on cleanly. I don't want to force it and crossthread, so does anyone know the pitch for sure? By eye it looks like 1.75mm (the coarser...
