My 1981, BJ42 ignition switch has been moved to the dash, by a previous owner, using a non-OEM switch. I would like to move it back to the steering column. The steering lock on the steering column has been cut out. I have a new OEM key switch cylinder and a new cable to plug into the wiring...
Wow, Thanks. I looked there but could not figure out how to get the build date. Another question please; I only have the data plate in the engine compartment and the one on the frame, did it have any other data plate? My 71 FJ had the one on the door post, which had the build month.

I think it's normal but would like to know for sure. Is there anything I can do, like replace the rings, to make it better and get long life from the engine? It seems to have good power. It has so much power I have to be careful not to lug it because It just keeps putting out the power at low...
The biggest issue is that you have to ask if products will work. If I wanted an digital instrument cluster - they don't work on 24 volts systems, at least the ones i'v looked into. You will likely have to live with Kilometers, new speedometers in miles are hard to find.
I have a BJ42 and would like to add a Tach. I know how to do a gas engine, but not sure about a diesel. I am sure Toyota included a Tach on some of it's later trucks like the FJ60 and 62. Since there is no ignition system on a diesel how do I do it. I know there can be a geared mechanical...
