3 inch backspacing will work great, on a 15X8 wheel. On a 15X10 wheel you are getting a little deep. As in deeper dish which can lead to the drum of the wheel bending easier under sevier use. On a street rig, or one with only moderate off-road this is fine. The whole problem is mute if you go...
My dayly driver is a 1999 Isuzu Amigo. the rear baring is going out on the right side.
any pointers on how in the F$%K to get to the C-clip, and how to get it our?
well I have my frame off rebuild (not resteration, do to plan as rock crawler not OE) stripped as far as posable. It is now time to start putting things back together.
I think I am going to use the rear leafs out of a 1987 toyota pickup for my front spings, with SOA and turned axle. Ihave...
i RECENTLY PULLED BOTH AXELS OUT OF A 73' PIG FOR MY 68' FJ-40.
I WAS TOLD BOTH AXELS HED DETOIT LOCKERS IN THEM. WHEN I OPPEND THEM UP THE LOCKERS LOOKED TO BE BETOIT TRUE-TRACKS.
WHEN LOOKING FOR INFORMATION I CAN NOT EVEN FIND A TRUE-TRACK AVALIBLE FOR THE LANDCRUISERS AXLES.
CAN...
well the replies helped to know the 87 mini housing will not work.
but it also let me know that my gears might not work.
two more questions that would help alot.
1. the axle is actualy out of a 74 pig (will this solve my spline count problem)?
2. if no to #1 anyone out there interestid...
started working on my rear axle last night and ran into a problem. i'm using the diff out of my 68 fj-40, and (trying) to use a 87 mini truck for donner parts.\
problem is after pulling the mini axle the housing looks like it tappers down to far, unlike a pre-85 mini axle.
after dooing all...
Just brain storming and wanted others thoughts. Would you, or should I say could you mount a rack-and-pinion stiringunit from a IFS to the back of a solid axel and have a viable working system?
are you bilding it for yourself or the next owner? If it is for you, only you know what you like. is stock your stile or is half fj half tube buggie more your style? ether way or in between if it is not being built for resale do what best fits your needs and own style.;)
on the dirt grips, depends on price and what you use your rig for. Ok dirt roads and general off-road cruzing, but cup out quick on a dayly driver. Thy are a kelly springfield (Goodyear) product so being round is always in my opinion a consern.:o
I have mentioned before that I was thinking of pulling the suspension out of my 74' fj55 (old man emu 2'' springs), as well as the axles (Detroit lockers in both), and put them in my 68 fj40.
All the reserch I have done lead me to think besides spring length both axels would be the same ie...
I stated they are OME springs but I might be wrong. They look new and are on a fj55 I picked up. the shocks are OME so I just figured one and one was two. the shackels are on the back side on the front and rear. It also looks like the pig sits highter than stock.
the pig would make a...
