If I am correct on this approach, then it will help the attendees. I highly recommend you keep old engine air filters. When you start on a dusty trail, swap out the air filters for the old one. That way if it becomes saturated with a lot of dust, just knock it out, and swap back the newer one...
I tried a brand listed on Amazon. My mpg dropped on the highway from about 19-21mpg to 16-19mpg.

I recommend avoiding Max Thrust air filters.
Some Toyota dealers will give you a little discount if...
Our 2008 Honda CR-V has "good enough" Firestone tires on it because of price and the car's lifetime alignment is with Firestone. They can rotate the tires and align the front end at the same time. As said above, almost every tire is capable for general commuting use.
As @TeCKis300 said...
302k now and I wish I replaced the coil springs and shocks earlier. We got our 2008 in June 2019 when it had 225k. The shocks were changed around 150k. However this speaks to the durability of Toyota’s high-quality parts.
Last week I drove from CO to St Louis to see friends, then a bit south to...
Scott,
I appreciate your desire to help. I was in a tight spot because this Thurs I'm taking the Cruiser on a trip to Memphis. I began the usual maintenance 2 weeks ago. But, my instinct told me to inspect the coolant, radiator, pulleys, etc. So I ordered all the parts and got a discount from...
I got teary-eyed reading this. This is the most inspiring post I've read on this forum. It warms my heart to know there are still lots of very good people out there, especially you. In a world where most everyone is looking out for their own and trying to get a step up on others to make more...
Went to school there, born on the same month and day as the Bear, and use a lot of Saban's principles in my executive coaching practice. Having the red Cruiser is a huge bonus. RTR!
Thank you for the kind words.
You have helped me in the past and I am thankful. And I'll drink the Cruiser-Kool-Aide next to ya!
My 8-yo son wants our 2008 Cruiser. Even though it needs a ton of work, interior stuff, rust stuff on the bottom... he probably loves it more than me.
When we are...
I've owned a lot of Toyotas (SR5 truck, Supra, 4 Runner, Celica, Corolla, MR2, Lexus ES 250). I've owned Hondas, 2 Subarus, Chevy and Buick station wagons, and a Nissan Maxima. My first car, and the one I regret the most selling, was my 1978 Pontiac Trans Am Smokey & Bandit Edition. If I'm...
I don't have the expertise and mechanically/electrically skilled as many on this forum. One reason why I'm going to the Cruiser on the Rocks in Silverton this July is to remind everyone what a stock Cruiser still looks like .
From what I witnessed watching the mechanic who came to my home...
The first owner replaced the original radiator on 10/13/16 175,600 miles. Mileage now is 300,500. I did not see any cracks. But, coolant has been egressing the system more than normal in the past 2 months. I've been monitoring this issue since we bought this 2008 in June 2019, 225,500 miles...
I get partial credit thanks to @Bullgump :
Water pump
Alternator
Radiator
Thermostat
Coolant-line hoses
Fan clutch and pulley
Tensioner pulley
Idler pulley
Rear deflector
Seat gap organizer
Diode Dynamics Smart Tap
Looks like we are a go! We have put it on the calendar!
For anyone wondering if the trails are doable for stock Cruisers - 95% of the trails in the area are definitely doable in a stock Cruiser:
We've taken our stock 2008 with regular tires (Yokohama Geolander G015). No lift. Original...
I spoke with my family about this event today during lunch. They voted to attend. However, our other travel plans might interfere. We love being in the Lake City/Ouray/Silverton area. We've done most of those trails in our 2008. It's hard to say no to this because we live near Denver. If things...
You guys are talented
You guys are very talented. All I could muster recently was changing out the fluids in the diffs, engine oil, transfer case, power steering, and brake system.... along with new plugs, rotors/pads, air filter, wiper blades, and cleaning the cabin air filter.
This week...
I don't use any Toyota-branded fluids/grease in my 2008 as there are equivalents that are much cheaper alternatives such as for the coolant system, brake system, power steering, tranny, differential/transfer cases, etc. However, there are different specs for different years with fluids/grease in...
