Afternoon guys....it's been a while.
My fiancée and I are seriously contemplating trading her paid-off 2015 Highlander for something a bit more capable... Like a Land Cruiser. However, since I sold my 80 in 2012, I'm well aware of how prices on these got stupid, especially during covid. We have...
After selling my 80 back in 2012, I could never really get over the fact that I no longer owned a Land Cruiser. My fiancée and I have a paid-off 2015 Highlander Limited, on which we could realistically get almost $20k for trade-in, and I've been seriously contemplating on getting a 100-series...
Was being towed by a dark blue or possibly black Chevy Silverado HD. Two UHP troopers on each side in a gas station off 1600 N in Orem.
Was it anyone here? Strange coincidence or actually pulled over?
SOLD!
Here she is, I never thought I'd see the day...
1991 FJ80, asking $2000 or best offer. ~275,000 miles. Most of the modifications in my ROTF and garage have been stripped. A list of what remains can be seen below...
Formalities first:

Got together with my brother and buddy two weeks ago to start this small project. All we had was a stick welder, sawzall, and two angle grinders.
Goal: cut it short and weld in a hitch receiver. Nay was the inspiration for this.
Since y'all know what the uncut rear end of an 80 looks...
This only used to happen once in a blue moon, but it's happening more and more often. Basically, the motor will just cut out and lose power at random times while I'm driving. Doesn't matter where I am or what time of day, just totally random. It won't die, just lose power; like the motor is...

I've been getting crappy gas mileage for a while now, like 9-10 MPG. Hasn't really bothered me until now.
Things I've done so far (not necessarily to get better MPG):
-entire exhaust system including Magnaflow cats, OEM O2's, upped the pipe to 2.5" with a Flowmaster 40 - $970 - torque curve is...
I've been reading up on the 80's front 3rd, seems it's based on the 4Runner/Hilux V6/Turbo 8" rear diff. I've read that a carrier from the 8" rear can be bolted into a HP front....Including a LSD carrier.
If it's possible, I think a LSD carrier would be a good option for those with open diffs...
Ok, since I've been pestered by some to do this, I'll just start it now.
My plan: Rebuild the entire front axle. Chromoly birfields and axle shafts, Marlin Crawler HD seals, part-time hubs, and eventually a part-time kit into my truck (Katie). Possibly a new front diff (locker, maybe), too...
Ok, so the time has come where I am officially sick of looking at the frame sticking out a mile and a half from the rear end.
I have a sawzall. I have access to a tube bender and gas MIG welder. I can get tube for cheap. So I'm gonna build a rear bumper (eventually).
First on the list of...
Update: FALSE ALARM!!! Heh... Neither me nor the exhaust guy realized that there are protective CAPS in the O2 plugs. :o
The shop who is doing my exhaust called me up a little while ago, saying that the O2 sensors don't have the correct connector... I ordered them from CDan.
Part...
The great and epic debate is going on in my head right now.
I'm at a crossroads, guys. As you know, I'm running with a hollow front axle and need new junk to go in it.
I've thought much about this, and to be honest, I'm getting pretty comfortable driving a 2WD 80 in the winter. The roads get...
Since most of the 3FE wisdom lies with you 60/62 guys, I'm posting here cause all the 80 guys would just fawn over their precious 1FZ's...
I'm gonna be redoing my exhaust here soon. Got most of the parts I need- new 2" Magnaflow cats, O2 sensors/bungs, and a 2-into-1 y-pipe with a...
Most of you probably know by now that I somehow stripped out the front axle shafts in my 80. I know for sure I will need new ones, as both shafts are trashed on the diff ends.
I'd like to get some advice on Bobby Long's chromo inner axle shafts... Not his birfields, I'm fully aware of the...
Hey guys, wondering if you could help out a fellow USA guy...
I've got a scale model Tamiya RZJ90, but I can't remember what the scale was. But that doesn't matter since I put the body on a Losi mini rock crawler.
I measured the wheelbase of the original Tamiya model, it's roughly 8 cm, while...
DEAD THREAD REVIVAL - SCROLL TO POST 4
And I already modified it haha!
Just got it for Christmas. Not a huge fan of the current body, so I went downstairs and snagged the body from my Tamiya (sp?) RZJ90 Prado 2-door... And here are the results:
***original pic links broken...sorry***
Still...
So as some of you know, my front axle decided to let go last week, which is now causing me grief and embarrassment on the freshly snowed-on roads. :o
In the first thread I started, I was thinking that the side gears in the diff may have been stripped, as the axle shafts themselves are already...
EDIT: Birf not blown, scroll down to help a brother out...
So I'm pretty sure I just blew a birf....
I need to know if it's still safe to drive if I drop the front shaft. It's the only vehicle I have available.
