    1fz-fe short block anywhere??

Hey all, Looking for an update on the most current order of a new short block assembly. How’d it go? Where did you order yours from? I’ve had a similar back and forth with my local Toyota dealership. Any info would be appreciated! Thanks, Justin

Looking for input on p0135 p0325 p0330 CEL

I’d check the wiring for continuity, from the knock sensor to the efi, make sure the knock sensor is passing a resistance test, if one of the knock sensors is toast go ahead and replace it. If it continues the motor is likely knocking which could come down to a mechanical issue as mentioned...

Looking for input on p0135 p0325 p0330 CEL

Yes after all of the debugging the knock sensors were fixed but the knocking continued. So that left the final resolution, which was that my truck was actually legitimately knocking. If you pull the knock sensors and set them somewhere in contact with the motor but away from the block they...

Blown Head gasket Warped Cylinder Head Custom Solution

This is one of the reasons why I've begun to just zero in on working on my own vehicles. It's more fun and less stressful, at this point every job I've done for other people is something that I tend to focus on too much. I try not to turn friends away when I can but sometimes for peace of mind...

Blown Head gasket Warped Cylinder Head Custom Solution

It's not my job necessarily when asked to do the job this way, this wasn't some invention of my imagination. People do fix warped heads this way, at the end of the day if the customer and their machinist want it done this way, they are willing to pay for the work, and release liability if it...

Blown Head gasket Warped Cylinder Head Custom Solution

For anyone interested in making their own, or having a water jet shop do it. The owner of the vehicle I made this for seems happy, cheaper solution than a new head and solved his problems. I've attached the .dxf file. If you can't wait for the Cometic gasket, this shouldn't cost more than 200$...

    Front Axle Snap ring mystery

Would have been a good bet... Thanks for the input. I took everyone else's advice and look at the brake caliper spacing but that all seemed to be something that I did due diligence on making sure was right. As it turns out the the drive flange sizes were different! At some point the axle or...

    Front Axle Snap ring mystery

Thanks and yes I did. When I took it apart I checked the oil seal that's on top of the inner hub bearing and it was flush with the surface. In reality it's probably more like an 1/8" that I need to account for.

    Front Axle Snap ring mystery

Hey everyone, Recently replaced the axle seals on the front axle. Everything went along smoothly, not the first time I've done this but to my dismay there is something that I can't figure out. The driver side axle drive flange is completely covering the snap ring groove. The snap ring came off...

Blown Head gasket Warped Cylinder Head Custom Solution

Steve, according to my machine shop that’s been doing this for longer than I’ve been alive they seem to think the machining is fine. I’m just curious why you think it’s a no go? The warping is uniform front to rear. I’m going to order the cometic gasket, thanks for that. I didn’t quite like the...

Blown Head gasket Warped Cylinder Head Custom Solution

As far as I understand anything over .01 is getting into the range of causing serious issues as btslaser mentioned. I like the cometic solution that's a good one to keep in mind.

Blown Head gasket Warped Cylinder Head Custom Solution

Totally, break was the wrong term. My thought was in conducting the heat and dissipating/distributing more evenly by not concentrating in one spot as heavily. Though to be fair on that point, steel and aluminum are pretty good as well. I was a little too focused on that boundary layer between...

Blown Head gasket Warped Cylinder Head Custom Solution

In essence yes, you are running two gaskets. What the copper shim does is essentially building back up the material that's been removed by the machining. The copper saver shims are used in cases like this or in uses where people are moding the engine to change the compression ratio. On a side...

Blown Head gasket Warped Cylinder Head Custom Solution

Recently started working on a 1996 FZJ80 with a blown head gasket... amongst other minor issues. The cylinder head was totally warped with the apex of the damage happening between cylinders 4 and 5, with a peak of about 0.029" (29 thousandths). I'm getting the head machined down and spent some...

97 LX450 Good spark, fuel and air and still no start

Just a quick thought, also worth seeing if the throttle body is working properly. When these things sit they can get "sticky" it's easy to see if they're working properly by having the air intake boot off and seeing/videoing the butterfly valve in action. If anything else, might be worth a shot...

Looking for input on p0135 p0325 p0330 CEL

Last one, after some more research I'm going to see about replacing the fuel pump before anything else. The vehicle has 250k on the odometer and it probably wouldn't hurt to swap in a new pump, on top of which I did some research and the newer resonant based knock sensors can hit the frequency...
