Ok. I do have a spare carb from the same year engine. The only difference I can see is that it has a couple extra pieces of linkage on it. Dont remember exactly, have to dig it out and look.
What does a carb rebuild from the mentioned places run??
Rob.
Ok. All good points.
If I do decide to get one , from where would be best??
I have bought parts from all the major LC parts places, some are better than others. Not only on price, but service as well.
Thoughts??
I have a 73 fj-40 with the stock f-engine, minus the smog gear, plus a header, pertronix.
Runs good enough, but considering upgrading to a 32/36 weber carb setup.
Not a daily driver, but a weekend excursion rig and playtoy. Would like to have more power without doing the v-8 swap.
I have...
Looks good!!
I too am in the middle of a frame-off resto on my 73 fj-40 hardtop.
It is about 75% complete. Working on the hardtop and doors at the moment.
They are dissasembled and in various stages of repair and prep for paint.
I did not go with the purist approach, kinda went 50/50.
I...
Looking for a fuel gauge for my 73 FJ-40.
Havent been able to find one at the usual places. Toyota discontinued it.
Production of 3-73.
It has three connecters on the back of the gauge.
E-mail me at videorob@earthlink.net if anyone has one, or knows who might.
Thanks, Rob.
My fuel gauge, or sender is not working proper on my 73-fj-40.
Recently filled the fuel tank, actually overfilled it, thinking it was empty.
Gauge reads only half full. Would this be a problem with the sender, or the gauge itself.
anyone ???
Yhanks, Rob.
I just finished my restoration on my 73 fj-40. I can take some close up shots of that later today and send them out. I have a hell of a time posting pics here, so give me an E-mail address and I will send them out later tonight.
By the ignition wire, you mean the coil wire??
Between the fake coil wire, taking out the rotor, and the lock on the roll bar, I think its a good start.
I do not think the brakes are pressurixed all the time, only when the system is locked. does not work will driveing, only when the key is turned and locked.
I thought about the snipping a brake line to tow it away, that is always possible, but for someone who thinks the can just maybe lift the...
This is not a line lock, It is simaler, but it locks the brakes with a key, not a switch or button. Once the key is inserted and turned, the pedal is pressed and the key removed, The brakes are locked until you remove the key.
I have seen line lockes for motorhomes and motorcycles, but this is...
well, once the cable is undone at the mount, two 17mm nuts sandwiched together, it does move freely. Once put back in the loop-de-loop, it does bind up before attaching the cable to the hook.
I just used a multipurose pennzoil lube. Was going to the local hwdr store to look for some graphite, or even something with teflon.
Being as old as the cable is I dont think it was made with teflon. Just a steel cable and jacket.
Anyone out there heard of a device called a brake lock security lock??
It is a device that re-routes your brake lines into a alum cylinder which locks with a key to set your brakes in place. Its not a parking brake, but a seperate non-electrical setup.
The theory is that with the brakes locked...
Having another problem with my 73 fj-40.
Throttle cable is sticking more than I feel comfotable with.
cable was oiled and moves freely when not connected.
When connected, and springs all in place, in really binds up. Does not pull smoth or return smooth. On my 73, it goes into a loop-de-loop...
All of the vapor canister lines were all cleaned, and put back together. There is a check valve that connects the line coming from the plastic canister with three lines, to the charcole canister mounted on the fender well. It was cleaned also, maybe it is not working and not allowing vapor to...
hmmmmmmmmmm, I did clean the tank out as best i could, I ran it several times, maybe two hours total before it tokk to the street. This is the first full tank of fuel on the road. I did put on a new fuel filter and all new fuel lines.Did not dissasemble the carb and clean.I did not replace the...
Trying to diagnose a possible fuel problem on my 73 FJ-40.
I have stock f-engine, carb,intake, and a header.
Fuel system is stock, with the emmision control canister, lines and vacumn switch in place.
Problem.
After a 30 minute cruise to test out everything, (just got back on road after...
