My '71 has one working brake, on the right front, I have bought all the stuff needed to go through the system, but reading stuff like this is making me scared of tearing it apart. I have gotten used to turning hard left when I mash the brake petal hahahah.....
I have a '71 40 with the stock engine, I changed the old carb with one from a 78. The butterfly valves dont want to close all the way, I checked for tension in the accelerator cable and there is none, and I have put a reletavely strong return spring in also. I can pull it closed with my hands...
65mph in a '72 wow, I am confident my '71 would explode at anything over 50mph...haha, no advice, just impressed you can get that kind of speed out of it.
How much of a differance will 1/4" spacers make visually, I think it will take care of the rub, but I would like a tougher looking stance....while I'm at it.
I have some minor wheel rub on my tre's, was wondering what the best option is for some wheel spacers. Its on a '71 fj40, all stock suspension. I want the spacers on all 4 wheels so it will look semetrical..and while I'm at it some wheel flares would be cool too. Any suggestions, or any...
Find the deeptest baddest mudhole in your area, go about half way through it and stop...it wont take long to see if your front end is engaged (ask me how I know this). Seriously, unhook your rear drive shaft, its only 4 bolts, very easy to do.
I had the same problem in my '40, turns out my front end was toed out 2", I adjusted it so it was toed in 1/2", spec is 1/8" I think but I run really low air pressure so I went in a littel farther. It tracks great now.
I havean etrex venture and I love it. You can get a free program that will interface with your computer to save waypoints and even put them on a topographic map (ezgps I think it called).
I always soak them overnight in pb blaster then if they donnt come by hand, use impact driver (the kind you hit witha hammer). I made the mistake of putting the phillips adapter from the impact driver on my 1/2" impact..I have never seen a screw round out so fast in my life...last resort drill...
Ya'll are gonna think im crazy but the best thing for burnt eyes is vicks save..put some under your eyes and GO TO SLEEP..when you wake up in the morning it will be much much better. I have done this several times and it really works.
The tag says it was made in 9/71 if that makes a differance. I read that it wasnt an option, thats why I asked him about it, yet another good thing about buying a one owner vehicle that is 30 years old. It only has 50,000 miles, and he bought it in Washington state and drove it allll the way...
I have a stock antenna mount on my '71, passenger side a little higher than what is in the pictures. I asked the original owner and he said that it never had a radio but it came from the factory with an antenna.
On my '71 I plugged every vaccum line except the one for the crank case vaccum, brake booster, and the one that runs into the valve cover. I removed the vsv and plugged the line at the distributor. Runs great, and havent had a problem yet.
