Back at it with the fj60 the last few days. Got some much needed work done on it. Put some sweet adjustable reservoir shocks on the rear. Had them valved for the weight of the truck. They ride 100 times better then The old Bilstein 5125’s for sure.
Got some more random free time so installed my oil cooler I’ve had laying around. 10an with a built in thermostat. Kinda close to headers but it’ll do the trick.
Cleaned up the grounds on the battery today with a bus bar. Going to add a few more ground straps as well. I hate having a million wires coming off the battery.
Was dealing with some heat issues wheeling slow in the heat so i installed a Poison Spyder Hood Louver. Helps out a lot for sure. Broke my heart to cut the hood up.
The old front stock leaf springs were beat up up. It was like driving around a Jesus bobble head, so I went ahead and installed some new OME springs. I went with the medium duty and it’s a huge improvement on ride quality
Does anyone know of some reasonable sliders for fj60’s? I looked at the White Knuckle but they want around 900 bucks for a dom steel with a 10 degree sweep and the diamond plate. I want a nice step to get in but be able to slam the occasional rock and not worry about it.
Funny you mention that...on the test drive after installing it, it popped off. I actually ended up plumbing the original Toyota reservoir in to it so it’s looks better
I had to rebuild the accelerator pedal as well. The original arm for the rod linkage only opened the throttle 30% so I welded on a new arm so I could get more articulation but retain the hand throttle for 4 wheeling. Turned out nice and really opened up the motor. Hurray for full throttle up the...
Almost wrapped up the rear bumper kit from Mark as well. I need to pick up the steel to finish the tire carrier and paint it but it came out pretty nice.
Ended up going with Corbeau seats. The originals were in good shape but I always felt like I was going to fall out of them around corners. These were super easy to put in with the fj60 brackets.
I’ve been out of town for a bit but it gave me some time to get motivated on the build again.
Finished the power steering An line gm 16mm O-ring to toyota 16mm inverted flare
I got the exhaust finished and after a couple breakdowns, I think I’ve worked out the hiccups. I was going to go with speed hit gauges but decided to stay with the stock gauges for now. Any one know off the top of their head of a good oil pressure sending unit conversion? Think I got the coolant...
